EEE 201 EXP - 7 Post Lab Report

The document outlines Experiment No. 07, which focuses on studying the characteristics of a parallel resonant circuit by varying the supply frequency and analyzing the resulting voltage and phase differences. Key findings include the resonant frequency of 1525 Hz, lower cutoff frequency of 1023 Hz, and higher cutoff frequency of 2410 Hz, with calculated differences from theoretical values. The experiment also details the transfer function and phase differences at various frequencies, demonstrating the circuit's inductive behavior.

EXPERIMENT NO: 07: Study of a Parallel Resonant Circuit and Its Characteristics
Objective:
In this experiment, supply frequency of a parallel R-L-C circuit will be varied and the
variation of voltage across the output terminal (resistance or inductance or capacitance),
and the phase difference between voltage and current will be plotted against the
frequency to study resonance.

Circuit Diagram:

Figure 01 : Parallel R-L-C circuit for resonant study

F0IGURE 02
Datasheet:
From datasheet for figure -2:

Resonant frequency :9581.86 rad/s 9581.86 rad/s =1525 Hz

Lower cutoff frequency 6427.699 rad/s=1023 Hz

Higher cutoff frequency 15142.48 rad/s=2410 Hz

Answer to the question no.1:

Resonant frequency = 1/√(LC) =1/√(10mH x 1μF) = 10000 rad/s =1591.549 Hz

Difference of measured and calculated resonant frequencies
= (1591.549-1525)/1591.549 *100%
=4.18%

Lower cutoff frequency= − (1/2𝐶𝑅) + √((1/𝑅𝐶)^2+(1/LC))

  = − (1/2 * 1μ𝐹 * 10𝑚𝐻) + √((1/100Ω * 1μ𝐹)^2+(1/10𝑚𝐻*1μ𝐹))
= 4142.135 rad/s
=659.241 Hz
Difference of measured and calculated Lower cutoff frequencies
= (1023 -659.241)/1023 *100%
=35.55%

Higher cutoff frequency =(1/2𝐶𝑅) + √((1/𝑅𝐶)^2+(1/LC))

  = (1/2 * 1μ𝐹 * 10𝑚𝐻) + √((1/100Ω * 1μ𝐹)^2+(1/10𝑚𝐻*1μ𝐹))
=19142.135 rad/s
=3046.56 Hz
Difference of measured and calculated Higher cutoff frequencies
= (3046.56-2410)/3046.56 *100%
=20.89%
Answer to the question no.2

1 −1
( 𝑗⍵𝑙 −𝑗𝑤𝑐)
Transfer function : H(⍵) = Vo/Vi=( 1 )
𝑅+ 𝑗⍵𝑙 −𝑗𝑤𝑐

Voltage , V=Vmcos(⍵t)

For resonant frequency

⍵c=10000 rad/s (theoretical value from pre lab report)
Phase difference Δ𝛳°= arg(H⍵c)= 90.06° (calculated using scientific calculator)≍90°
So for resonant frequency the circuit behaves as an inductive circuit
V=Vmcos(⍵ct)=5cos(10000t)

For lower cut off frequency,

⍵1=4142.135 rad/s (theoretical value from pre lab report)
Phase difference Δ𝛳°= arg(H⍵1)=90.0162≍90°(calculated using scientific calculator)
So for lower cutoff frequency the circuit behaves as an inductive circuit
V=Vmcos(⍵1t)=5cos(4142t)
For higher cut off frequency:
⍵2=19142.135 rad/s ( from pre lab report)
Phase difference Δ𝛳°= arg(H⍵2)=90.0139≍90°(calculated using scientific calculator)
So for higher cutoff frequency the circuit behaves as an inductive circuit
V=Vmcos(⍵2t)=5cos(19142.135t)
