II. Project Summary:
The “GARDENING TO FEEDING PROGRAM” is in line with the “Masustansiyang Pagkain
Para sa Batang Pilipino Act” which is also known as Republic Act 11037. The Department of
Education recognized the link between proper nutrition to the performance of students. Feeding
program motivates students to learn and encourages students to stay in school which thereby
minimizes drop out rates (Manila Bulletin, 2023).
This program will be initiated by the Grade 9 advisers. The Grade 9 students will be planting
vegetables which when harvested will be fed to the identified underweight Grade 9 students. The
section advisers of Grade 9 welcome the help of the stakeholders for the seeds or seedlings of
vegetables and some gardening tools.

III. Program Background
Poverty is one of the main reasons families suffer hunger and malnutrition, especially among
Filipino children. Having sustainable resources of healthy foods can make a difference in food
consumption, health, and nutrition in every household, especially in the community.
As human populations continuously grow, with an estimate of 353,000 being born every day,
around the world (UNICEF, December 2013), the ratio for the food requirement rapidly increases. The
demands of our growing population have done much damage to the environment in quest for food;
volumes of waste contribute to environmental risk (Akaateba & Yakubu, 2013). Malnutrition is one of
the most predominant problems in the whole world today.
Mrs. Yvorne R. Agub, being the MAPEH teacher of Grade 9 students conducted a BMI
identification to the said students. The MAPEH teacher of Grade 9 discovered that there are 74
students who have normal weight, 51 students are underweight, 16 students are overweight, and 4
students are obese. Reporting the issue, the advisers came up with the idea to adapt gardening near
the classroom premises to feed the 51 underweight students when the vegetables are harvested.
Thus, the “Gardening to Feeding Program” was developed to solve the issue of underweight
students in Grade 9.
The students of Grade 9 with the supervision of the class officers and advisers will maintain
the growth of vegetables. The feeding starts as soon as the vegetables can be harvested, cooked,
and served to the identified students. The feeding will be done in a series of sessions depending on
the availability of the harvested vegetables. The food will be served by the advisers with the help of
class officers and section officers.
IV. Program Objectives:
The Grade 9 students and advisers of the Gardening to Feeding Program shall be able to:
1. plant vegetables;
2. feed the harvested vegetables to the identified feeding beneficiaries; and
3. normalize weight of feeding beneficiaries.
V. Program Methodology
The Gardening to Feeding Program will have the following phases: planning,
implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. In the planning stage, a program proposal will be
made. This will be checked, verified, and approved by the school authorities. Implementation of
the program will be based on the approved proposal.
The program will follow a timetable for the work breakdown.
