How Do Travel
Collaborations
Work
In a travel collaboration, a
travel-related entity such
as hotel, airline or tour
operator works with a
content creator who
promotes the brand’s
products or services
through social media
content. In return, the
content creator gets to
stay for free and even gets
paid to create content for
them.
DO YOU NEED TO BE AN INFLUENCER WITH
THOUSANDS OF FOLLOWERS TO WORK
WITH HOTELS?
No, you don't need to be an influencer or have thousands of
followers to work with hotels and resorts. You can pitch to them
as a UGC content creator and provide them with photos and
videos for their usage. But what you do need is a good portfolio
or Instagram page which shows off your photography and
videograhy skills so that they want work with you.

Building Your
Portfolio
The first thing any brand will ask you for is your work portfolio or
your Instagram profile, so make sure you create a consistent and
aesthetically pleasing profile that showcases your travels and
lifestyle.
The next time you travel or dine at a restaurant, start clicking
photos and videos from a content creator's perspective.
Use these to showcase in your social media and your work
portfolio. The focus here is on the quality of your videos and
images, especially if you don't have a large following.
You need to show an impressive photography portfolio that sells
your skills and what you will provide.

Choosing Hotels
To determine the right hotels for you, think about your travel
style and your audience.
The simple formula is - if you are a luxury travel blogger, go
for luxury or boutique hotels. If you are a backpacker, go for
budget hotels and hostels.
What kind of travel experiences are your readers or viewers
interested in? What kind of hotels would they want to
discover? And then think about the hotel where you’d want to
stay. Are your followers likely to want to stay there too?

Finding Hotels
One of the easiest ways to search for hotels in your city or where
you plan to travel is through Instagram. You can use the search
function or look for reels to find out who other travel creators are
collaborating with. For example, if you search for hotels in
Amsterdam, you will find reels listed showcasing hotels which
collaborate with creators, and the hotels will be tagged as well.
Follow the hotel's Instagram account and engage with their latest
posts. Then send them a direct message asking for their marketing
manager to send your pitch and portfolio to.
Another way to find hotels is to use booking apps like Agoda and
Booking.com to look for hotels in your preferred destination and
then look for them on Instagram.
If you cant contact a hotel via Instagram, message them on
Facebook and ask for their marketing contact.

Sending Pitches
Once you have listed the hotels you want to reach out to and
found their marketing manager's contact info, it's time to email
them. Here are a few things to remember when crafting your
pitch email:
Introduce yourself as a travel content creator and hotel
photographer. Include where you're based and what type of
content you usually like to create (i.e. unique hotels in Bali).
Show that you did your homework. What do you like most about
the property? Mention it in your mail.
Propose an idea for a
collaboration. Maybe
you notice that the
hotel has plenty of
photos but not many
reels. Or maybe you
notice their website
photos are low-
quality.
Mention your travel
dates and attach your
portfolio or media kit
to show examples of
your work

Sample Mail
Subject: Creating social content for your hotel
Hello,
I’m X, a hotel photographer and travel content creator from London. I
love your hotel's central location, stunning views and modern decor.
I have a wide experience working with hotels, concentrating exclusively
on boutique hotels. (Let them understand right away that you are the
right person to work with them by pointing out a detail that is something
common for both of you.)
I am planning to visit your city soon as I am working on creating content
about tourism/ food/ culture (enter anything that fits you) and would
love to feature your property. Would you be interested in a collaboration
from August 16th-18th ?
Please feel free to take a look at my portfolio and my Instagram to learn
more about me and my work.
Let me know if you have any questions, and I look forward to hearing
back from you soon!
QUICK TIP:
Hyperlink your Instagram account and portfolio in the email. This will
make it easy for the contact person to view your work, and it will make
your email less likely to end up in spam than if you had attached a PDF.
