The document introduces the concept of cloud cover and how meteorologists describe it using specific terms and fractions. It outlines various cloud coverage categories from clear to overcast, and includes an agenda for a group activity to identify cloud coverage. Additionally, it provides questions to reinforce understanding of cloud cover terminology and measurement.

hear terms like clear/sunny,
fair, mostly sunny, partly
cloudy, mostly cloudy,
broken and cloudy/overcast
used to describe the skies.
Look at the pictures. What activities would you do based of the weather ?
Agenda for Today
-Identify the cloud coverage using fractions with a denominator of 10
How do meteorologist figure out cloud cover ?
Terms used for cloud cover : Using fractions they can identify the cloud cover of
the day
Sunny, Mostly Sunny, Partly Cloudy, Partly Sunny, Mostly Cloudy, and Overcast.
0/10 clear / sunny 1/10 fair (often saved for high wispy cirrus) 2/10 to 3/10 mostly

Any Questions
Dive a little deeper
Usually meteorologist use the terms “ Mixture of sun and clouds” and
“variable clouds”, when the cloud cover percentage will change during the
day or when cloud cover will be different across the forecast region. The sky
condition can change dramatically across an area and changing weather
can turn a sunny sky into a mostly cloudy sky very quickly.
