Important Safety Information

Most accidents that involve product operation, maintenance and repair are caused by failure to observe
basic safety rules or precautions. An accident can often be avoided by recognizing potentially hazardous
situations before an accident occurs. A person must be alert to potential hazards, including human factors
that can affect safety. This person should also have the necessary training, skills and tools to perform these
functions properly.
Improper operation, lubrication, maintenance or repair of this product can be dangerous and could
result in injury or death.
Do not operate or perform any lubrication, maintenance or repair on this product, until you verify
that you are authorized to perform this work, and have read and understood the operation,
lubrication, maintenance and repair information.
Safety precautions and warnings are provided in this manual and on the product. If these hazard warnings
are not heeded, bodily injury or death could occur to you or to other persons.
The hazards are identified by the “Safety Alert Symbol” and followed by a “Signal Word” such as
“DANGER”, “WARNING” or “CAUTION”. The Safety Alert “WARNING” label is shown below.

The meaning of this safety alert symbol is as follows:

Attention! Become Alert! Your Safety is Involved.
The message that appears under the warning explains the hazard and can be either written or pictorially
presented.
A non-exhaustive list of operations that may cause product damage are identified by “NOTICE” labels on
the product and in this publication.
Caterpillar cannot anticipate every possible circumstance that might involve a potential hazard.
The warnings in this publication and on the product are, therefore, not all inclusive. You must not
use this product in any manner different from that considered by this manual without first
satisfying yourself that you have considered all safety rules and precautions applicable to the
operation of the product in the location of use, including site-specific rules and precautions
applicable to the worksite. If a tool, procedure, work method or operating technique that is not
specifically recommended by Caterpillar is used, you must satisfy yourself that it is safe for you
and for others. You should also ensure that you are authorized to perform this work, and that the
product will not be damaged or become unsafe by the operation, lubrication, maintenance or repair
procedures that you intend to use.
The information, specifications, and illustrations in this publication are on the basis of information that was
available at the time that the publication was written. The specifications, torques, pressures,
measurements, adjustments, illustrations, and other items can change at any time. These changes can
affect the service that is given to the product. Obtain the complete and most current information before you
start any job. Cat dealers have the most current information available.

NOTICE
When replacement parts are required for this product Caterpillar recommends using original Cater-
pillar® replacement parts.
Other parts may not meet certain original equipment specifications.
When replacement parts are installed, the machine owner/user should ensure that the machine re-
mains in compliance with all applicable requirements.

In the United States, the maintenance, replacement, or repair of the emission control devices and
systems may be performed by any repair establishment or individual of the owner's choosing.

Using non-recommended tools or procedures can compromise both safety and functionality of Cat machinery. It may lead to operation under unsafe conditions, potential machine damage, and increased risks of accidents or equipment failure. Moreover, it may void warranties and exceed safety and performance boundaries that are rigorously tested with recommended practices .

Improper lubrication and maintenance can lead to dangerous conditions such as mechanical failure, increased wear and tear, and potential accidents that may result in injury or death. Lack of proper lubrication can cause components to overheat or fail, while poor maintenance can lead to unseen defects affecting the safety and functionality of the equipment .

Operators should ensure that all lights and visibility aids are functioning correctly, use spotters or additional personnel to guide operations, reduce operating speed, and strictly adhere to site safety protocols. It's also important to increase alertness and communication in order to anticipate and mitigate potential hazards due to limited visibility .

Following the 'Signal Words' such as 'DANGER', 'WARNING', or 'CAUTION' in the manual is critical because they indicate the level of risk associated with specific actions or conditions. These words help prioritize safety measures by drawing attention to their importance, ensuring the operator takes appropriate precautions to prevent accidents and maintain safety standards .

Operators should consult with Cat dealers, who have access to the most updated and comprehensive information regarding the specifications and service requirements of the equipment. This ensures that any changes in specifications, torques, pressures, and other parameters are taken into account before maintenance or repairs .

Using genuine Caterpillar® replacement parts is crucial because they meet the original equipment specifications, ensuring the machine continues to perform as designed and remains in compliance with applicable requirements. Non-genuine parts may not meet these standards, potentially compromising machine safety and efficiency .

The 'Safety Alert Symbol' is pivotal in drawing the operator's attention to critical safety information that may prevent accidents or hazards during operation. Its visual and contextual placement reinforces the seriousness of adhering to safety norms and guidelines, uniquely identifying warnings that demand immediate attention to protect personnel and equipment .

Fire prevention strategies are crucial for maintaining a safe work environment, as they help avert fires which can cause significant injury, equipment damage, and even death. These strategies include regular inspection of fuel lines, ensuring fire extinguishers are accessible and maintained, and training staff in fire safety protocols. Such measures reduce risk and enhance the overall safety of operations .

Operators should first be authorized and adequately trained to handle the equipment. They need to understand and follow all safety instructions provided in the manual and heed all hazard warnings. Operators should remain alert to potentially hazardous situations, particularly those not covered by specific warnings, and ensure compliance with safety rules, including site-specific regulations. Moreover, new techniques or tools should only be employed after confirming they are safe and do not jeopardize operational safety .

Site-specific safety rules determine additional precautions that operators must follow, which are not covered by the standard manual. These rules account for unique hazards and operational conditions of a particular worksite, such as terrain-related risks or location-specific regulatory requirements, ensuring comprehensive safety coverage during equipment operation .
