CREAFORM VXinspect Tutorial 2 - Mesh Inspec Approximate time required to complete tutorial: 45 minutes Level of difficulty: Intermediate VXelements 10.0.1 Navigate through the topics by using the blue arrows (#4. //#).To access the whole content or find specific information, click the menu = (or the Contents tab in full screen mode). Introduction This tutorial is intended for users who need to become familiar with VXinspect. It will guide you through a mesh-mesh inspection workflow including the steps of creating an alignment and dimensions, and reporting the values. For the purpose of this tutorial, the session file was opened automatically with an uploaded reference mesh. Using a mesh as a reference allows easily specifying the nominal measurements of different features that need to be inspected for every part. ‘¢ While defining the nominal value for any entity, select Triangles Selection as the Nominal. The Nominal mesh section is where you choose the reference mesh, # The small con GF next to Nominal mesh allows entering the nominal triangle selection mode. cel nd fee SM eis Houcing Refer ~ ‘¢ Once you are in the nominal selection mode, you have access to all the selections in order to manually select the triangles from which the nominal value will be created, # Then, the measurement of the entity works exactly the same as with a CAD model. The extractions are automatic ifthe 2 scans are aligned, not, Measure selected allows you to manualy select the triangles on the measurement mesh, The sample data fo his worl provided by Creaform ts the property of Creaform and is used for informational purposes oly {is recommended to use the 2D drawing as a reference throughout the tutorial. It can be found here after download: *\Documents\VXelements\Tutorials\VXinspect_2\ DataSet Ifthe tutorial files were previously downloaded on the computer: # Click V/ to browse the files saved locally or «Click C to see if a new version of the tutorial is available or; # Click 3X to delete them, Download the new version if required What will this tutorial cover? Step 1. Create entities to align the data mesh and reference mesh, Step 2. Create entities and measurements. Step 3. Create snapshots and export inspection report. CREAFORM AMETEK Click A> to go to the next page. 1. Create entities to align the data mesh and reference mesh Before creating a local coordinate system to report the inspection values, the data mesh and reference mesh will be aligned together. Best-fit alignment [Link] Alignment 1 and then Surface best fit GP 2. Set the Pre-alignment mode to Manual. 3, Click Pre-align. [Link] 3 commen points on both the data mesh and reference mesh. Points can be in random locations, provided each pair of points approximately matches in location. 5, Click Align, then look at the result. If not satisfied, click Reset to repeat the step of picking points. 6. Click OK to exit the function, Notice how far the original coordinate system is located from the meshes, it can be convenient in inspections to create a local coordinate system for reporting X.Y, and Z values. nment creation in new coordinate system location In the next few steps, we will create entities to be used for the creation of a new coordinate system at the following location Create Plane 1 We will create a plane on the top face of the part. 1, Click Plane 2. For the Nominal, select 5 (Triangle selection), When we use a mesh as reference object instead of a CAD model, we need to select the triangles that will define the nominal entity. Click Triangle selection & cel B feetorre) REMI] =| ccics Housing Refer ~ This opens the Nominal creation mode, and selects the Similar normal Q tool by default. 4, Press Ctrl and click a few different locations to define a plane that spans the entire face. 5. Click OK to accept the nominal plane, and then click OK again to finalize the creation of Plane 1. 6. Click Cancel to exit the function, Create Circle 1 We will create a circle which will define the XY origin of the new coordinate system, 1. Glick Ada a circle. C). 2, For the Constraining plane, select Plane 1. 3. In the Dimensions pane, select only the Diameter (2) check box. Make sure the tolerance is set to +/- 1.000 mm. Similarly to how we created Plane 1, we will need to use the Triangle selection BP feature to create the nominal. The Similar curvature {) tool willbe selected by default 4 Click Tonge selection GP. 5, Press Ctrl and click the inside curvature of the hole. 6. Click OK to accept the nominal entity. The measured component should automatically extract. However, itis possible that the program extracts triangles on the outer face of the hole too. The measured circle (2) will deviate substantially from the nominal circle [1], as shown. In this case, we can limit the search distance in the Automatic selection parameters. 7.|n the Automatic selection parameters pane, set the Max. distance value to 1.000 mm. Now, the nominal and measured circles should match closely. We will begin by creating Planes 2 and 3, 1. Click Plane 2. Click Triangle selection & 3, Press Ctrl and click the right face of the part to create a nominal plane. 4.|n the Calculation filter parameters pane, add an Outlier filter percentage of 5.0% to refine the plane selection. The triangles appearing in purple will be rejected from the selection. 5. Click OK to accept the nominal plane. 6. Click OK again to create Plane 2. 7, Repeat steps 2 to 6 to create Plane 3 using the left face of the part 8. To create Plane 4, select JM (Constructed) for the Measurement method. 9. Create entities and measurements In this step, measurements (distances) and entities will be created to be included in the inspection report, Caliper 1 There are several ways to report distances. Here, we will use the caliper tool [Link] Caliper JR 2. For the Nominal, select L. (Numerical values) 3, Set the Containing axis to Entities selection 1 ~ axis. Make sure the tolerance is set to +/- 1.000 mm. 6. Click Triangle selection 7. Press Ctrl and click the inside curvature of the hole to select the triangles. 8, Click OK to accept the nominal entity. As discussed previously, if you notice that some the outer surface triangles are mistakenly extracted, reduce the Max. distance in the Automatic Selection Parameters pane to a value of 1.000 mm, Make sure to select Entities selection 1 as the Alignment. 9. Click OK to create Circle 2. 10, To create Circle 3, make sure E> (Triangle selection) is selected for the Nominal. 11, Set Plane 7 as the Constraining plane. 12.1 Dimensions pane, select only the Diameter (@) check box. Press Ctrl and click the inside 4 faces of the part to select the triangles. 8, Click OK to accept the nominal selection. 9. In the Nominal numerical values pane, modify the Length and Width to the values on the 2D drawing, respectively 60 mm and 45 mm. 2D drawing file can be found here after download: *\Documents\VXelements\Tutorials\VXinspect_2\ DataSet Notice that in the 2D drawing, the measurement shown is the Length and Width values at the top of the object, which are bigger than those at the bottom due fo the slight draft angle. However, VXinspect extracts the best-fit entity by default. f we want to select only the upper ridges of the 4 faces instead of the entire faces, we can add a Max. distance (say 2 mm) to the Constraining plane in the Automatic selection parameters pane. The measurement triangle selection will be modified accordingly. 10. Click OK to create Rectangle 1. 11, Click Cancel to exit the function. Distance 1 Next, we will create a distance measurement from existing Circle 1 and a new point entity. Point 1 We will create a point between Circles 2 and 3. 1. Click Add a point @ 2.
