Good morning everyone, I will be tackling about the rich cultural heritage of
the Kalinga people, specifically focusing on their indigenous games, music,
songs, and traditional dances.
Indigenous games of Kalinga is not only for fun but they are part of traditional
life, bringing people together in celebration and friendly competition.
So for the first one we have
1. Sangsangkur- so it is usually a arm wrestling game and usually played
in pairs by two elderly men. They say that it is display of strength and
resilience between the players.
2. Manfaju- rice pounding game for adult men and women. Yung stick na
gamit nila is called “ Pestles’’. This game is done with speed and
alertness.
3. Ag-agwod- so usually ang tawag diyan is “tug of war” pero sa mga
Kalinga people ay ag-agwod and it is played with 10 or more players.
It is often played during celebrations and occasions like festivals
ganyan and ine emphasize nito ung unity and endurance ng players.m
4. Kadang- kadang- ginagamitan siya ng Bamboo stilt simple play
means simple yet skillful kase ma te test yung balance coordination
and speed natin.
5. Dokdokma or pig catching- played during agricultural fairs. The
participants will chase and try to catch the pigs pero with a twist kase
nilalagyan nila ng pangpadulas or oil ung pig para mas mahirap
kuhanin. It is fun yet challenging activity that brings laughter and
excitement to the crowd.
KALINGA MUSIC AND INDIGENOUS SONGS
Kalinga music is deeply rooted in their oral traditions and daily life. It
expresses emotions, teaches values, and preserves the stories of their
community.
1. Uwwawi or Koykoy- it is a lullabies sung to babies soothing them to
sleep with gentle melodies. Actually the word “Uwwawi” is played
repetitively in the music.
2. Uggayam- is a traditional wedding song that offers greetings and
advice to newlyweds. Offers words of blessing, advice, and
encouragement to the newlyweds as they begin their life together
3. Ullalim- A unique and powerful chant that tells stories of Kalinga heroes,
battles, and legends. These epic songs are performed with deep
emotion and often take hours to complete
4. Dandanag/Chanchannag (Funeral Songs)- These group songs are sung
during mourning, expressing sorrow and honoring the memory of those
who have passed
KALINGA INDIGENOUS DANCES
1. Sagni or Tadok (also called Pallok or Pattong)- A celebratory group
dance, often performed with gongs. Men and women dance in rhythm,
symbolizing unity and thanksgiving.
2. Challichog (Rice Terrace Dance)- a stamping dance, or the dance of
the rice terraces. Ginagawa nila ito after matapos ma construct yung
rice terraces and during the ritual ceremony. They do this to prevent
erosion and also to pray for an abundant harvest.
3. Salidsid ( Cayoo) - A graceful and flirtatious dance between a man
and a woman. The man being the rooster and the female as a hen.
Yung guy is may hawak na cloth called “ayob” or “ allap”
