PROPOSAL FOR IOT-BASED SMART WRISTBAND FOR MONITORING BLOOD
OXYGEN LEVELS AND HEART RATE IN REAL TIME
Understanding the Project
Health is one of the most important things in life, and sometimes we don’t notice when
something is going wrong inside our body until it’s too late. Many people suffer from health
issues related to the heart or lungs, and one common thing they all need is a way to keep track of
their vital signs. This project is focused on designing a smart wristband that can monitor blood
oxygen levels (SpO₂) and heart rate in real time.
The wristband will have tiny sensors that check these two important health parameters while the
user wears it, just like a normal watch. It will then send the data wirelessly using IoT (Internet of
Things) technology to a mobile phone app where the information can be seen clearly. If the
readings go outside the normal range, the wristband will immediately alert the user or someone
taking care of them.
This will help people notice when something is wrong before it becomes serious. The project is
about giving people more control over their health, using a device that is simple, portable, and
not expensive.
Target Audience
This wristband is for anyone who needs to regularly check their heart rate or oxygen level,
especially people who may not have access to big medical machines or frequent hospital visits.
The people who will benefit the most include
1. People with asthma or breathing problems who need to monitor their oxygen levels
2. Older adults who want to keep an eye on their health from home
3. Sports lovers, runners, and gym users who want to track their heart rate during exercise
4. Patients recovering at home from illness or surgery who need to be checked often
5. Caregivers or family members who want to monitor the health of their loved ones
remotely
This kind of technology will also be useful for people living in rural areas where healthcare is far
away, or for students and tech enthusiasts looking for an affordable and practical health
monitoring solution.
Outcome
By the end of this project, the goal is to create a working smart wristband that actually collects
and sends health information in real time. Here’s what is expected
1. A complete wristband device that can accurately measure heart rate and SpO₂
2. A wireless system that sends live health readings to a mobile phone or other display
3. An alert system that warns users if their health levels become dangerous
4. A simple app or interface that allows the user or caregiver to view the data anytime
5. A design that is low-cost, comfortable, and easy to wear for long periods
6. A useful device that encourages early action before health conditions get worse
The main idea is to make health monitoring less stressful, more regular, and easier to understand.
Use Cases
There are many situations where this wristband can be used in everyday life. Some examples
include
1. A student living in a hostel
o He uses the wristband to check his oxygen level and heart rate while sleeping or
studying
o One night, he gets an alert that his oxygen level is low, so he drinks water and
rests before it gets worse
2. A grandmother at home
o Her family gives her the wristband to wear daily, and they connect it to their
phones
o If anything unusual is detected, they get a notification and quickly check on her
3. A footballer in training
o He uses the wristband to track how his heart performs during practice
o The data helps his coach adjust his training sessions for better performance and
safety
4. A tailor working long hours in a small shop
o She wears the wristband to check if her heart rate becomes too high due to stress
o If it does, she takes a short break to relax and prevent long-term health problems
5. A young man recovering from surgery
o He wears the wristband so his health worker can monitor him from a distance
o The worker checks the app and sees all his readings without needing to visit every
day
Conclusion
This project on building an IoT-based smart wristband is all about helping people take care of
themselves in a smarter way. The device will make it possible to track important health signs like
heart rate and oxygen level without going to the hospital or using bulky machines.
It’s simple, wearable, and can help people act early if something is wrong. The goal is to use
technology to make health monitoring easier, especially for those who need it most, and create a
solution that fits right into daily life.
