Required Practicals

In order to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding,

students studying Chemistry will be required to have carried out a minimum of
12 practical activities, which will contribute towards the Practical Endorsement
(CPAC). These skills, knowledge and understanding will also be assessed in
written examinations in the context of these, and other, practical activities.

Practicals 1 - 8, and 11 are completed in Year 12

Practicals 9, 10, 12-16 are completed in Year 13

All practical work will be completed in a lab book which will remain in school at
all times.
Assessment (A-level exams at the end of Year 13)

Throughout the course, you will have a formative assessment for each topic
(40 marks, marked by your teacher with feedback) alongside a summative
assessment (upon completion of each topic).

Textbook
We strongly encourage the purchase of (at least one of) the following to assist
you with your study of Chemistry:
Folders

You are required to keep an organised folder for all of your Chemistry work.
Your folder should contain all class notes, assessments, and work completed
during independent study.

There will be formal folder checks once per term and you must be able to
provide evidence of what work you are completing independently when asked.

Tips for Success

Stay on top of your work! It is very easy to adopt a ‘I’ll deal with it later’
attitude. This will not end well!

Use your study time effectively. Your Chemistry teacher will share with you
their timetable and when their room is free - it is strongly recommended that
you spend at least one of your study sessions per fortnight in the Chemistry
department working.
