Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 global priorities adopted by the UN
to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity and peace by 2030. They
guide policies and actions across countries to create inclusive, resilient, and
sustainable societies.
Overview
The SDGs integrate social, economic, and environmental objectives so development
today does not compromise future generations. They encourage partnerships,
innovation, and accountability to achieve measurable progress worldwide.
The 17 goals
Goal 1: No Poverty. End poverty in all its forms everywhere by expanding
social protection, decent livelihoods, and access to basic services. Tackle
vulnerabilities from shocks and disasters to ensure no one is left behind.
Goal 2: Zero Hunger. End hunger and all forms of malnutrition by ensuring
year-round access to safe, nutritious food. Promote resilient, sustainable
agriculture and equitable food systems.
Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being. Ensure healthy lives through universal
health coverage, maternal and child health, and disease prevention. Reduce
mortality from major diseases, injuries, and environmental risks.
Goal 4: Quality Education. Ensure inclusive, equitable, quality education and
lifelong learning for all. Improve learning outcomes, skills for work, and safe,
effective learning environments.
Goal 5: Gender Equality. Achieve equality by ending discrimination and
violence against women and girls. Ensure equal participation, economic
opportunities, and access to health and education.
Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. Ensure universal access to safe drinking
water, sanitation, and hygiene. Improve water quality, efficiency, and
ecosystem protection.
Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. Ensure access to reliable, modern, and
affordable energy for all. Grow renewable energy and improve energy
efficiency.
Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Promote sustained, inclusive
growth, full and productive employment, and decent work. Safeguard labor
rights and foster entrepreneurship and innovation.
Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. Build resilient infrastructure
and inclusive, sustainable industrialization. Advance research, technology,
and connectivity for broad-based development.
Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities. Reduce inequality within and among countries
by promoting social, economic, and political inclusion. Adopt fair policies on
income, migration, and opportunity.
Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. Make settlements inclusive,
safe, resilient, and sustainable. Improve housing, transport, planning, and
disaster risk reduction.
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Ensure sustainable
resource use, waste reduction, and circular economy practices. Cut food
waste and hazardous pollution throughout value chains.
Goal 13: Climate Action. Take urgent action to mitigate and adapt to climate
change. Strengthen resilience, climate finance, and integration of climate
measures into policies.
Goal 14: Life Below Water. Conserve and sustainably use oceans, seas, and
marine resources. Reduce pollution, protect habitats, and manage fisheries
sustainably.
Goal 15: Life on Land. Protect and restore terrestrial ecosystems and
biodiversity. Combat deforestation, desertification, and species loss.
Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Promote peaceful, inclusive
societies with access to justice for all. Build effective, accountable, and
transparent institutions.
Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Strengthen global partnerships, finance,
data, and technology sharing. Coordinate governments, business, and civil
society to deliver the SDGs.
