"Research is creating new knowledge," a quote by Neil Armstrong that emphasizes the

role of research in discovering new insights and solutions. Research is a systematic and creative

investigation that helps establish facts and develop new conclusions. It serves as the foundation

of various fields, contributing to science, medicine, technology, and even daily life.

Beyond professional researchers and scientists, students also engage in research as part of

their academic journey. It is not just a requirement but a valuable experience that sharpens

critical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation skills.

With these, our research focused on evaluating the potential of an organic mosquito

repellent spray using Cymbopogon citratus, Mangifera indica, Citrus sinensis, and Nauclea

orientalis. After conducting experiments and analyzing our findings, we finally reached the final

defense, where we presented our research and responded to the panel’s questions.

To prepare for the defense, we carefully reviewed our research paper, refined our

presentation, and anticipated possible questions. We ensured that we had a deep understanding of

our study, particularly in explaining our background of the study, methodology, results and

discussion, and findings of our study. Although nervous, we were determined to present

confidently and accurately.

During the defense, we presented our research within the allotted 30 minutes, explaining

the formulation, effectiveness, and evaluation of our organic mosquito repellent. The panelists

listened attentively and later asked questions regarding how our findings could be applied in real-

world scenarios. Additionally, they raised concerns about the low rating in terms of odor, one of

the factors we assessed. However, we emphasized that the quality and effectiveness of our

mosquito repellent remained high, which is the most important aspect of the study. Although,

some questions were challenging, we did our best to provide clear and logical answers based on

our findings.

After the deliberation, we felt a sense of accomplishment and relief, knowing that we had

successfully presented and defended our research. The experience allowed us to demonstrate our

knowledge and hard work, proving that we fully understood our study. It also gave us valuable

insights into how research is evaluated and how it can be applied in real-world situations. This

experience reinforced the importance of thorough preparation, teamwork, and critical thinking,

which are essential skills we can use in future academic.

The final defense was a challenging yet fulfilling experience. It tested our ability to

analyze, communicate, and defend our research effectively. More than just a presentation, it was

a learning process that prepared us for future academic and professional endeavors. We are

grateful to our adviser, panelists, and groupmates for their support throughout this journey.

Through this research, we have gained not just knowledge but also valuable skills that we will

carry forward in our future studies and careers.
