INTRODUCTION

The capacity to adjust to any circumstance is known as adjustment. With his exquisite
ability to adapt, one can advance in life, be healthy, and have a lovely relationship.
Maladjustment, the reverse of this adjustment, impedes pupils' or anyone's progress. A decline
in mental health can result in a number of maladaptive behaviours. Maladjustment is
characterized as either excessive or insufficient adjustment, primarily ineffective in meeting
the needs of a typical social setting. Conversely, the age range of 12 to 18 is commonly referred
to as puberty or adolescence. Adolescence has been recognized by numerous psychologists as
a unique period.

This is because children undergo physical, mental, and emotional changes as they transition
from one stage of life to another. Since many of them are unaware of these changes, they
frequently exhibit inconsistent behaviour as a result. These behaviours might also be caused by
a number of internal or external reasons. Students of this age often attend school from lower
secondary to higher secondary. Thus, the school has a significant impact on pupils' growth
during this period. Students who experience harmful environments at both their home and
school, struggle to fit in with their friends, or struggle academically may be found to be abusive
or maladjusted behave.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of a search on maladjusted behaviours in secondary school students and

their contributing factors are to:

1) Identify and classify different maladjusted behaviours (e.g., aggression,

withdrawal, academic issues).
2) Understand the impact of these behaviours on students' academic and social
development.
3) Examine the causes, including psychological, family, social, and environmental
factors.
4) Explore the influence of the school environment, peer relationships, and teacher-
student interactions.
5) Propose strategies for early intervention, prevention, and support to improve
student behaviour.

GUIDELINES OF THE ACTIVITY
• SURVEY
To begin with the survey process Balia High School was selected to analyze maladjusted
behaviors in adolescents will include both interviews and questionnaires. Supervisors
distributed questionnaires to students in each group, focusing on behaviors like aggression,
withdrawal, and academic disengagement, observed both inside and outside the classroom. In
addition, supervisors conducted short interviews to gain deeper insights into the students'
experiences and the factors influencing their behaviors, such as peer pressure, family issues,
and school environment. The data gathered will be analysed to identify key patterns and
underlying causes of maladjusted behaviors, providing valuable insights for supporting
students.
• GROUPING WITH SUPERVISOR
For the practicum on maladjusted behaviours in adolescents, supervisor segregated the
class into groups of 25 students each. These groups will be observed both inside and outside
the classroom to identify behaviours like aggression, defiance, isolation, and academic
disengagement. Supervisors guided students through surveys, collecting data on factors
influencing these behaviours, such as family dynamics, peer relationships, and school
environment.
