SECTION A – Answer all questions (30 Marks)


1. State three reasons why workplace safety is important in electrical installations. (3
marks)

2. List four types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used when installing conduits.
(4 marks)

3. Differentiate between PVC conduit and metallic conduit. (4 marks)

4. Match the conduit accessory in Column A with its function in Column B. (4 marks)

5. Name the standard cable colours for the following:


- Live (phase)
- Neutral
- Earth (3 marks)

6. State three tools used for cutting conduits. (3 marks)

7. List three methods of maintaining good housekeeping at the workplace. (3 marks)

8. State three uses of a Consumer Control Unit (CCU) in electrical installations. (3 marks)

(a) A market installation requires:
- Lighting circuit with 5 points
- Two socket outlets (ring circuit)
- A single-phase intake point with CCU, energy meter, and earthing system

(i) The wiring layout for the lighting circuit (one-way switching) (8 marks)
(ii) The wiring layout for the socket outlets (ring circuit) (8 marks)
(iii) The connection arrangement for the single-phase intake point (8 marks)

(b) State six safety precautions to observe during the above installation. (6 marks)
(c) List five electrical measuring instruments and state one use for each. (10 marks)

Question 10
(a) Describe the step-by-step procedure for preparing and installing metallic conduits for
a wall-mounted lighting circuit. (15 marks)
(b) Draw and label diagrams to illustrate three common conduit bends. (9 marks)
(c) Explain the importance of each of the following in conduit work: (6 marks)
- Accurate measurement
- Smooth cutting of conduit edges
- Proper fastening of conduits
(d) List and explain five functions of conduit accessories in electrical installations. (10
marks)
