MODULE (FINALS)
IT 313- QUALITY CONTROL

Lesson: Tools of Quality Control

Short Discussion

Quality Control (QC) ensures that products or services meet specific standards of quality. To
help identify and solve quality problems, organizations use “Quality Control Tools.” These are
simple yet powerful techniques to collect, analyze, and present data in a way that helps make
better decisions.

The 7 Basic Tools of Quality Control are:

1. Check Sheet – A structured form for collecting and analyzing data.

o Example: Recording daily defects in production.
2. Histogram – A bar graph showing the frequency of data.
o Example: Showing how many times each defect occurs.
3. Pareto Chart – A special bar chart that identifies the most common problems (based on
the 80/20 rule).
o Example: Identifying that 80% of problems come from 20% of causes.
4. Cause-and-Effect Diagram (Fishbone Diagram) – Identifies root causes of problems.
o Example: Analyzing why defects happen during packaging.
5. Control Chart – A graph used to study how a process changes over time.
o Example: Monitoring daily product weight to ensure it stays within acceptable
limits.
6. Scatter Diagram – Shows the relationship between two variables.
o Example: Checking if machine speed affects defect rate.
7. Flowchart – A diagram showing the steps of a process.
o Example: Visualizing the steps in a manufacturing line.

Part I. Identification (Write the correct QC tool.)

1. A graph that shows the frequency of different categories of defects.

→ Histogram
2. A structured form used to collect data in real time.
→Check Sheet
3. A graph that monitors variations in a process over time.
→Control Chart
4. A diagram that helps find the root cause of a problem.
→ Cause-and-Effect Diagram
5. A chart that helps prioritize problems based on their frequency or impact.
→ Pareto Chart
6. A chart that shows the relationship between two factors.
→Scatter Diagram
7. A step-by-step diagram of a process.
→ Flowchart

Part II. Matching Type

Match Column A with Column B.

A B
1. Histogram a. Identifies root causes of problems
2. Flowchart b. Data collection form
3. Pareto Chart c. Visualizes process steps
4. Cause-and-Effect Diagram d. Shows frequency distribution
5. Check Sheet e. Prioritizes problems based on impact

Answer: 1-_d_ 2-_c_ 3-_e_ 4-_a_ 5-_b_

Part III. Short Answer

1. Why is it important to use tools of quality control in an organization?

Using tools of quality control is important because they help organizations maintain high
standards and ensure that products or services meet customer expectations. These tools allow
teams to identify problems, analyze data, and make informed decisions for improvement. By
applying quality control tools, businesses can increase efficiency, reduce errors, and build
customer trust.
2. Among the 7 QC tools, which do you think is the most useful for your course or future
career? Why?

Among the 7 QC tools, I think the Flowchart is the most useful for my future career. It
helps visualize each step of a process, making it easier to understand, analyze, and
improve workflows. By using flowcharts, I can ensure that tasks are organized efficiently
and that errors or delays are minimized.
