GRADE 1&2 LESSON PLAN – COMPUTER STUDIES (45 MINUTES)

School: Early Learning Montessori

Lesson: 3–4 (Combined Lesson)
Lesson Title: Understanding Storage Devices and Sending Files to a Pendrive
Subject: Computer Studies
Strand: Computer Operations and Keyboarding Skills
Sub-Strand: Secondary Storage Devices / Desktop and File Transfer
Duration: 45 Minutes

General Lesson Objectives


By the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:

1. Identify examples of secondary storage devices.


2. Explain the uses of different storage devices.
3. Identify common items on the computer desktop.
4. Demonstrate how to copy and send files to a pendrive.

1. What do we use storage devices for?
2. How do we save or move our work from a computer?
3. What are the items we see on the desktop screen?
4. How can we send a file to a pendrive safely?

Key Learning Activities (45 Minutes)


Secondary Storage Devices (20 Minutes)
Introduction (5 Minutes)

1. Show learners a Flash Drive, CD, and Memory Card.


2. Ask: “Have you seen these before? What do they do?”
3. Introduce the term “Storage Devices” – tools used to save or carry our work.

Lesson Development (10 Minutes)

• Display real devices and pictures of others (e.g., Hard Disk, Flash Drive, CD, Memory Card).
• Explain briefly:

1. Flash Drive: Small device to store and move files.
2. CD/DVD: Stores music, movies, and data.
3. Memory Card: Used in phones and cameras.
4. External Hard Disk: Stores large amounts of data.

• Quick discussion: “Which device do you think can hold the most data?”

Activity (5 Minutes)

• Give learners printed flashcards of storage devices.


• In pairs, let them sort devices by size (small, medium, large).

Desktop and Sending Files to a Pendrive (25 Minutes)


Introduction (3 Minutes)

1. Ask: “What do you see when the computer starts?”


2. Show the desktop on a projector or monitor.
3. Explain key items: Icons, Taskbar, Start Button.

Lesson Development & Demonstration (10 Minutes)

➢ Insert a pendrive and show:

1. Right-click a file on the desktop.


2. Select Send to → USB Drive.
3. Confirm the file is copied.

➢ Explain: this helps carry work safely.

Learner Practice (10 Minutes)

• Learners work in pairs:

1. Identify desktop icons.


2. Create a simple text file (e.g., “My [Link]”).
3. Copy and send the file to a pendrive under supervision.

Conclusion (2 Minutes)

1. Recap the steps to send a file.


2. Remind learners to handle pendrives carefully.
