Intersleek 757
Silicone Top Coat
• Intersleek 757 is a Foul release top coat
• It is a 3 pack silicone elastomer coating
• Intersleek 757 works by creating a low energy hydrophobic (“water-
h ti ”) surface
hating”) f
• Silicones are inherently hydrophobic resulting in high contact angles
and consequently beading of water on the surface

Intersleek 757
Silicone Top Coat
• The hydrophobic surface of Intersleek 757 makes it difficult for
fouling organisms to form a strong bond
• Any organisms that attach during static periods are easily removed
by washing or wiping reducing the time to clean

Silicone Technology
Intersleek 731, 737 and 757 are:
• Free of biocides with fouling control through physical
means only
• Non - toxic materials helping to reduce the
environmental impact of the coating
• Tin free
• Chemically durable resulting in long coating performance
For internal use only – not to be circulated outside AkzoNobel Protective Coatings
Fluoropolymer technology
• Fluoropolymer technology provides an amphiphilic surface
• An amphiphilic surface is one which displays both hydrophobic
(as with pure silicones) and hydrophilic tendencies at the same
time
• The fluoropolymer technology in Intersleek 970 achieves this
through a carefully controlled chemical arrangement giving the
following structure at the surface
Hydrophilic Hydrophobic main Hydrophilic
terminus chain terminus

Fluoropolymer technology
• Marine fouling organisms (e.g. barnacles, tubeworms) have
preferences for either hydrophobic or hydrophilic surfaces
• Making a surface that is wholly hydrophilic or hydrophobic will result
in preferential settlement of organisms that prefer a particular type of
surface
• A balanced amphiphilic surface of Intersleek 970 minimises the
interactions with a wider range of fouling organisms

Limitations of Intersleek systems
• Multicoat scheme
• Application can be difficult and standard application procedures
must be adhered to
• Intersleek Finishes and Tie Coats are three pack products (except
Intersleek 731 but has a temperature limitation)

Target applications in PC
O&G Markets
• In the oil and gas offshore industry, assets are often stationary out at
sea for many years, this leads to the build up of heavy foul
• Off-shore
Off shore structures must be inspected every 3 to 5 years for
corrosion assessment
• The underwater hull inspection is very difficult if the fouling is
covering the hull; additionally the operation can be lengthy (up to 2
weeks) and expensive, requiring in some cases the use of divers
• An easy clean surface reduces the cleaning costs and allows
classification society inspections to be carried out more easily
• For fixed production platforms regular cleaning is needed as the
buildup of fouling increases the draft of the jacket and thus means
currents and waves have a greater impact on the flexing of the steel.
This creates a headache for engineers designing the topsides who
have to take into account jacket vibrations and movements

Target application in PC
O&G Markets
• For Floating structures the buildup of fouling is similar, and this
means that corrosion survey on the hull are extremely difficult
• For FPSO we often specifically see that the Sea Chest (where water
is pumped in and out of the Ballast Tank) is a critical area to protect
from fouling. This is because an FPSO would need to ballast every
time oil is offloaded. Typically this is once a week
• Intersleek is also key for protecting the risers which carries oil and
gas onto the topsides. If fouling builds up then this will increase their
draft just like a jacket
• Intersleek properties are based on a surface effect and thus has an
indefinite lifetime if it is maintained. Other antifouling products
cannot claim this as they rely on biocides

Typical power plants

Target applications in PC
Power Market
The target assets in the power market include:
• Water inlets, outlets and cooling systems in thermal power
stations – steel and concrete
• Wave and and tidal devices – steel and composite
• In both cases, the assets are stationary with slow moving water
conditions
In thermal power, the opportunity is geared around:
• Maintaining plant efficiency by preventing blockages caused by
biofouling
• Reducing manual cleaning costs
• Improving the effectiveness of traditional fouling control
mechanisms, such as pulse-chlorination (chemical resistance is
important)

Target applications in PC
Power Market
For wave and tidal devices, the opportunity is focused on:
• Easy clean during maintenance periods
• Keeping heat exchangers clear
• Maintaining
M i t i i b buoyancy over ththe assett life
lif
• Maintaining efficiency of blades
The application of foul release systems over concrete substrates will
require the use of a suitable primer such as Intergard 740 or Ceilcote
680 followed by Intershield 300, tie coat and top coat
