Flagship Math Program for Grade IV-4

The document presents a flagship program aimed at helping 4th grade students who are struggling with multiplying numbers with 5 or more digits. The program's objectives are to help students understand the multiplication steps on their own, master multiplying multiple digit numbers, enhance mental math skills, and use memorized times tables. Strategies include pre-assessing students, drilling multiplication problems, cooperative learning, and having fast learners help slow learners. Expected outcomes include improved mental math skills, understanding of multiplication steps, confidence in problem solving, and helping classmates learn. Progress will be monitored through pre-tests, daily assessments, weekly evaluations, and mini-classroom contests.

FLAGSHIP PROGRAM IN MATH

I. II. III. IV. V. VI.

Introduction Objective Strategies / Activities Flagship Program Proper Expected Outcome Monitoring and Evaluation

INTODUCTION
Since the focus of this program is to help the learners achieve something they think is unachievable, we made a mini survey on the part that pupils should work on more. Based on the result of their quizzes, assignments and assessments in Math, the pupils in Grade IV-4 find it really hard to understand the steps in multiplying numbers with 5 or more digit factors. While other sections find it easy to understand the said subject matter, this section [section 4] needs an additional guidance to make them improve their skills in multiplication. It is commonly practiced in some Elementary Schools that when some pupils do not find it easy to understand a certain topic, for the sake of following whats on the lesson plan; teachers tend to leave some learners behind. But because we are not talking about some learners in this case, but one section is struggling, a flagship program is therefore more than necessary. The basic operations are the bedrock of understanding Mathematics. Thus it is imperative that this subject matter be instilled in the learners mind, regardless of the presence of calculators.

OBJECTIVE
a) b) c) d)

Make the learners find their way to understand multiplication on their own Master the steps in multiplying 5 or more digit factors Enhance the learners mental ability in solving problems quickly Utilize their ability using the memorized multiplication table

STRATEGIES / ACTIVITIES
a) b)

c)
d) e) f)

Conduct a pre-test to diagnose which step in solving this problem is the hardest to the learners Drill. Use the appropriate multiplication problems that can help the pupils better Have the learners practice solving problems with the teachers guidance Apply the cooperative learning strategies in the learning process Remember to use the 4As in the execution of the lesson Promote the hand-in-hand learning experience, wherein the fast learner should help the slow ones

EXPECTED OUTCOMES
a) b)

c)

d)

A better mastery of mental ability in solving multiplication problems An increase understanding of the steps in solving multiplication problems with 5 or more digit factors Gaining confidence in solving problems Helping classmates through cooperative learning

MONITORING AND EVALUATION

a) b)

c)

d)

Conduct a pre-assessment test Facilitate daily summative test in this area of learning Establish mini contest in the classroom to boost the learners willingness to learn by competing with each other each day Weekly assess and evaluate each learner until the expected outcome appears perhaps in a month
