MILUTIN
MILANKOVIC
He separated past from the future, his
throne was set in the present time,he is
walking throughout the future and he is
flying over the past monitoring it.
Milutin Milankovic was born in the village
.
of Dalj in Austria-Hungary(today
Croatia),on May 28,1879.
He was the eldest of the seven children
of a Serbian family of local merchants
and landlords.
Being of sensitive health, he received his
elementary education at home.
Milankovic attended the high school,
Realka, in Osijek and finished as the best in
the class.
The Milankovic family wanted to direct
Milutin to some high agricultural school
because it was necessary to secure
someone to manage their spacious land.
Instead,Milutin chose civil engineering in
Vienna.
The year 1909 was crucial for Milutin
Milankovic.
Milankovi was invited by the Philosophical
Faculty of Belgrade University to move to
Belgrade and become professor at the
Department for Applied Mathematics.
He was elected as associate professor.
When the German occupation authorities in
the Second World War asked the Belgrade
University professors to sign the Appeal to
the Serbian people (and support the
occupation
of
the
country),
Milutin
Milankovic is one of the few professors who
refused to do so.
When the Second World War finished, Court
of Honor of Belgrade University wrote this
conclusion:
1. Priznajemo da se Milankovi istakao kao
odlian strunjak i naunik koji se bavi
astronomijom i nebeskom mehanikom, ali
je "vrlo star i o nekom njegovom linom
razvoju nema ni govora". Dodue, i on je
dobar pedagog, ali "predavanja jedva
otaljava".
2. "Po politikoj orijentaciji pripada poznatoj
matematikoj kliki... Marksizam-lenjinizam
uopte ne poznaje niti pokazuje ikakav
interes. Smatramo da je na politiki
neprijatelj i da e kao takav umreti. Moe
se iskoristiti kao nastavnik i naunik" (1. jul

Teko je pojedincu da pravilno oceni svoje
duhovne sposobnosti. I budala sebe smatra
pametnim. O sebi mogu kazati, otprilike, ovo.
Logika mojih misli i pravilnost njihovih
zakljuaka jo je tu, ali se misli kreu tromije,
kao da su im se otrcala krila. Ipak, odblesne u
njima po koja orginalna znaajna ideja.
Milutin Milankovic died on December
12,1958. in Belgrade.
Milankovic is best known for his theory of
ice ages, suggesting a relationship between
Earth's long-term climate changes and
periodic changes in its orbit, now known as
Milankovitch cycles.
He made the most accurate calendar ever.
The length of the tropical year is 365 days,
5 hours, 48 minutes and 46 seconds and
Milankovic has achived accuracy of 365
days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and 48 seconds.
Only 2 seconds longer!
Milankovi is the main offender" who
proved that on Mars can be no civilized life,
because his calculations showed that the
temeratures are too low.
There are 2 craters that are named after
Milankovic:one on the far side of Moon and
one on Mars called 1605 Milankovic.
NASA has chosen Milankovic in the top 10
scientists who have studied the Earth.
