Understanding Perspective Drawing Techniques

This document discusses different perspective drawing techniques used to represent three-dimensional images on a two-dimensional surface. It explains single-point and two-point perspective, including how lines converge at vanishing points on the horizon in single-point perspective and how two vanishing points define depth and space in two-point perspective. The document provides examples of shapes drawn in one-point and two-point perspective, and instructions for tasks practicing these techniques by drawing cubes, additional shapes, and street or room scenes.

What is Perspective?

Perspective Drawing is a technique

used to represent three-dimensional
images on a two-dimensional picture
surface.

In todays lessons on perspective

drawing, we will explain the various
methods of constructing an image
with perspective and show how these
are used by artists and illustrators.
One point
perspective
Single-Point Perspective - Lines
extending from all objects in the
drawing converge back to one single
vanishing point in the horizon.

Two point
perspective
There are 2 vanishing points at
the horizon. Lines originating at
these 2 points define the depth
and spaces in the drawing.

What is missing from this shape?
Task 1: Draw a cube using 1 point perspective

Task 2: on the same piece of paper, draw another shape using one point
perspective, i.e triangle, star, letter

Task3: Draw one cube using 2 point perspective, then add a cube either
side..you should finish with 3 cubes.

Task 4: Begin designing your street/room scene using either 1 point or 2

point perspective.
