DROUGHT
What do you mean by drought?
The word drought instantly brings image of dry, parched land, no
rainfall, crop failures, starvation and bad living conditions to our mind.
In simple terms, drought is a condition of acute scarcity of water, food,
fodder, and employment due to scanty rainfall in an area.
This has increased the average
temperature and caused climate changes
to the earths atmosphere and also causes
drought.
Types o f drought
There are 3 types of drought. They are as follows:
M e t e o r o l o g i c a l drought
Meteorological d rought is generally defined by compar ing the
rainfall in a particular place and at a particular time.
This happens when the actual rainfall in an area is significantly
less than the climatological mean of that area.
Meteorological drought leads to soil moisture and this always has
an effect on crops production.
h y d r o l o g i c a l drought
Hydrological Drought is associated with the affect of low rainfalls on
water level in reservoirs, rivers & lakes .
This type of d rought are noticed sometim es after a meteorology
drought.
A hydrological drought change in water level affects eco-system.
a g r i c u l t u r a l drought
Agricultural drought occurs when there isn’t enough water for a crop
to grow at the particular time.
This type of d rought doesn’t depend only in the amount of rainfalls
where water is used carelessly for irrigation and other purpose.
