A qualitative research method which explores the experiences and


stories of individual .
These qualitative studies focus on identifying the experiences of a si
ngle individual or several individuals and understanding their past, p
resent, and future experiences. A researcher uses narrative design
s when individuals are willing to provide their stories, when their sto
ries follow a chronology.

Narrative Research Designs
Evaluating a Narrative Study
 Keeps the focus on a single individual (or two).
 Reports the life experiences of individuals as told through th
eir stories.
 Restories the individual stories and tells the story using a chr
onology with a
beginning, middle, and end (and possibly not in this order).
 Describes in some details the context of the story (i.e., the se
tting, the place where
it occurs, the people involved, and so forth).
 Reports themes (5 to 7) to emerge out of the story.
 Closely collaborates with the participant providing the story
