Plastic Sand Mix Bricks for Construction

Plastic waste is a growing problem due to increasing population and urbanization. Over 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide each year, killing sea life. This document proposes using plastic waste to make bricks and tiles as a way to reduce plastic pollution and reuse materials. The bricks can be made by mixing shredded plastic with sand and cement in a mold. Tests showed the plastic bricks have compressive strengths similar to standard bricks, can withstand temperatures up to 135°C, and cost 20% less than traditional bricks. Making construction materials from plastic waste provides environmental and economic benefits.

PLASTIC SAND MIX BRICKS

INTRODUCTION

 Plastic waste is in creasing due to increase in population, urbanization and

development
 The disposal of waste plastic has become a serious problem globally due to their
non-biodegradability
 Annually approximately 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide.
 Over one million sea birds and 100,000 marine mammals are killed
annually from plastic in our oceans.
 To over come these defects we can use the plastic in construction
sector as a raw materials in different ways.
 Like by preparing bricks, tiles and can be used for irrigation

Once the drink is finished the bottles are expected to throw out
in the trash which is only 3% people care about.

These bottles creating many problems now a days.

Causing environmental pollution
Material required

 Plastic covers, bags and bottles.

 Fine aggregate (sand or robo sand)
 Burning container.
 Mould of standard size.
 Trowel and showels.
 Tamping rod etc…..
 Seives of standard size
EXPERIMENTAL APPROACH
 WATER ABSORBTION : 8% ( which is in limit)
 Compressive strength variation
PROPORTIONS COMPRESSIVE
STRENGTH
1:3 7.22 MPA
1:4 8.16 MPA
1:5 8.48 MPA

 Hence the above test results are replica of 2nd class bricks (can be
used for construction purpose)
 Thermal resistance is up to 115°C to 135°C
 Estimated cost of a plastic brick: Approximately 20% lesser than
normal brick.
Advantage

 Reuse of waste plastic will be done.

 Economically low cost
 Durable and high strength
 Higher profit
 Eco friendly
 Encourages entrepreneur for setting business.
 Reduces the intensity of plastic on earth.
 “so we can use it effectively in construction”
Plastic tiles

 We can also use this concept in the preparation of plastic tiles.
