INTRODUCTION
In Artificial Intelligence, “Artificial” means objects that are produced by human beings, and
“Intelligence” is the capability to form tactics to achieve goals by interacting with an huge information.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) could organize better treatment for patients and it also provide information
with literally to the physicians, to make an excellent decision in healthcare and medicine.
AI has a great hope in healthcare, and it may allow for better prevention, detection, diagnosis, and
treatment of disease. Various automated systems and tools like Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs),
biomarkers, Natural language processing (NLP) and various algorithms helps to minimize errors and to
control the disease progression.
Medical AI
1. Medical AI stands for “Medical Artificial Intelligence”.
2. It uses computer techniques to clinical diagnoses and suggest treatments.
3. AI has the capability to detecting the relationships in a dataset and has been widely used to
diagnose, treat, and predict the results.
4. In the research and studies of medical AI, we primarily focus on the viability and feasibility to
incorporate various computer AI techniques in medical information modeling
Applications of Artificial Intelligence in medical field
AI as Health Assistant :
◦ The traditional process of patients visiting the doctor and getting
prescriptions is disrupted by the advent of AI-powered mobile apps
and chatbots.
◦ Providing the basic healthcare facility is possible even without
patients visiting the doctor.
◦ Chatbots can ask patients about their symptoms and provide a
personalized experience by linking their symptoms with probable
causes
EARLY DETECTION OF DISEASE
• AI can also be used to detect early stage heart diseases and
provide right treatment at the right time.
• AI, in the integration with consumer wearables and medical
wearable devices can identify heart diseases in patients and
monitor them with the right treatment.
QUICK DIAGNOSIS & TREATMENT
• At the Institute of Medical Science in the University of Tokyo,
artificial intelligence was successful in diagnosing a rare
form of leukaemia in a woman in her 60s. And that too in
just 10 minutes, when even specialists failed to make the
right diagnosis. Similarly, AI is helping many other doctors
to diagnose accurately and devise the right treatment
• AI-assisted diagnosis is important for healthcare
providers to detect diseases early and support patients
in their efforts to live a healthy lifestyle.
• Unlike human, AI algorithms don’t lose their edge while
diagnosing several samples together and collecting
useful patterns.
RESEARCH & DRUG CREATION
• When Ebola disease posed a major threat to the health of
people across the world, AI technology came as a saviour.
• AI not only helped in discovering the bat carriers of Ebola
but also assisted in preventing the spread of this disease
by identifying the relative drug from existing data for the
timely cure
WORKFLOW AND ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS
• AI is also impacting the healthcare ecosystem by automating
administrative tasks.
• Take for instance, voice-to-text-transcriptions that are helping
doctors prescribe medications and write chart notes quickly.
• AI is becoming an integral part of the healthcare industry.
• The growth of healthcare AI will not just help in providing
the quality patient care but also ensure financial relief for
the people.
• Thus, with AI, the healthcare ecosystem is all set to rise
and shine.
MERITS OF AI IN MEDICAL
FIELD
Ability to analyse data and improve diagnosis
• When it comes to medical records and other healthcare-related
data, AI technology is able to analyse it much faster than humans
are able to, and often more accurately.
• This can help medical professionals reach a diagnosis a lot more
quickly and allow them to perform their duties more effectively
Better patient care
• If implemented correctly, AI in healthcare
should improve the patient care that’s offered.
• It achieves this by cutting down on research
time, facilitating the better use of resources, and
reducing errors
Reduced cost of care
• There are plenty of ways AI can reduce costs, both
financially and time-wise.
• Machine learning in healthcare can ease the burden
of time-consuming administrative tasks, reduce
medical errors, and complete tasks a lot more
quickly than a human may be able to
Real-time, accurate data
• When it comes to medical issues, it’s incredibly important to offer a
diagnosis as quickly as possible.
• To do this, it’s vital that medical professionals receive accurate data that
allows them to make critical decisions more effectively.
• Real-time data reduces costs, minimises waiting times, and offers a
greater chance of being able to prevent a condition from worsening.
Improved workload and reduced staff stress
• It’s no secret that jobs in healthcare can be incredibly
stressful, and quite often departments find themselves
short-staffed.
• Artificial intelligence in healthcare could help to address
this issue, taking on some of the workloads to help ease
the burden
Support with administrative tasks
• Saving time on administrative tasks means medical
professionals can place more focus on patient care and
other important areas of their job.
• Tasks AI can help with include maintaining records,
scan analysis and data entry.
Health monitoring and digital consultations
• wearable technologies that help to monitor a
patient’s health or digital consultations that can be
done on a smart device,
• AI is a great way of improving the way medical
professionals record and analyse data.
• It also allows patients to monitor their own health
and receive expert assistance online
DEMERITS OF AI IN MEDICAL
FIELD
Training complications
• Not only do medical professionals need to receive
extensive training to use a lot of AI technologies, but the
AI tools themselves also need to be trained with curated
data in order to perform properly.
• In both cases, this can lead to complications that
wouldn’t exist without the introduction of AI
Risk of creating unemployment
• The robots are coming! In the past, it was often joked
that robots would take over the world and steal our jobs,
but AI and automation do actually pose a very real
threat to a lot of sectors.
• Healthcare is no different, where the introduction of AI
could mean that a lot of administrative roles are made
redundant.
Still requires human input
• AI has come on leaps and bounds in healthcare, but human
input and surveillance are still relied upon.
• Humans are unique in the sense that they can notice
behavioural observations and empathise with patients in a
way that no machine can
Inaccuracies could occur
• Using AI in medicine would eradicate a lot of human-
based errors, but it wouldn’t be able to get rid of
inaccuracies completely.
• Whenever there is a huge amount of data involved,
mistakes are still likely to occur, and data gaps can also
be an issue
Privacy Concerns
• Another major concern about AI in healthcare is its impact on
privacy and security.
• AI relies on collecting, storing, and processing large amounts of
sensitive and personal data, such as medical records, genetic
information, biometric data, and behavioral data.
• However, these data may be vulnerable to breaches, leaks, hacks, or
misuse by unauthorized parties
CONCLUSI
ONscience. There are many applications related
Artificial Intelligence is growing
to AI in various fields rather than healthcare, such as data management, drug
discovery, diabetic management, digital consultation etc. Studies demonstrate
that There are many evidences proved that medical AI can play an important
role in helping the doctors and patients to deliver healthcare much more
professionally in the 21st [Link] has a significant role in medical field.
Diagnose diseases, treatment design, detect mental conditions etc. are the main
applications of AI in medical field. There are various AI technologies are
available for detecting cancer, stroke etc.
