Famous Work

Fender Musical Instruments Corporation is one of, if not the biggest guitar manufacturers around today and was
founded by Leo Fender in the year 1946 alongside Clayton Orr Kaufman, a lap steel player. While in Fender,
Leo invented the first ever solid body electric guitar, the first ever electric bass guitar and revolutionary
amplifiers designs. All these designs are still widely used today with hardly any changes despite the fact that
Leo doesn’t even know how to play the guitar or bass.

What makes Leo Fender special as an
entrepreneur?
What makes Leo special as an entrepreneur is his ability to understand the needs and wants of people
without even having personal experience. He was able to design a product that met the needs of a
certain niche of consumers for decades even after his passing. Even after improving his designs, the
prior design would still hold value and would still be widely used.

He also provided a large variety of products that could meet the needs of a wide variety of musicians
such as producing amplifiers of varying wattage and speaker sizes.

Aside from his clear talent in designing and inventing revolutionary and timeless products, it is clear
that he also had the managing skills and knowledge needed to create a long lasting and successful
business.

Final opinions
Personally, what I think we can all learn from Leo Fender
is that understanding the specific needs or wants of
consumers is integral in creating a solid business model
especially when creating a product in a niche market.
Also this shows that being a successful entrepreneur is not
all about making so much money that you don’t even
know what to do with it. I think having a long lasting
legacy is an even greater achievement.
