Introduction
An input/output (I/O) device is a piece of hardware that can take, output, or
process data. It receives data as input and provides it to a computer, as well
as sends computer data to storage media as a storage output. Input devices
are the devices that are used to send signals to the computer for performing
tasks. The receiver at the end is the CPU (Central Processing Unit), which
works to send signals to the output devices. Output devices are the devices
that show us the result after giving the input to a computer system. Output
can be of many different forms like image, graphic audio, video, etc
What is input and output

Input: Inputs are the set of instructions that are given to the computer.
Output: Output is the results that come after processing the inputs.
Input Device
Devices are used to enter data and instructions into computer
memory from external world are called Input Devices.
An input device, such as a keyboard or mouse, sends information
to a computer system. The computer will then display or reproduce
that information via one or more output devices.

They perform three main functions:

1. Receive data from user
2. Convert data into binary form [the language of 0 and 1 also called
the machine language. Machine language is the only language, a
computer can understand directly.]
3. Provide converted data to computer memory for processing.
Examples include: Keyboard, Mouse, Track ball, Track Pad, Joy stick,
Touch Screen, Light pen, Touch Screen, Scanner, Digital Camera,
Microphone, Graphics tablet.
Output Devices
Devices used to display results of processing to the user are called
Output Devices.
A piece of equipment/hardware which gives out the result of the
entered input, once it is processed (i.e. converts data from machine
language to a human-understandable language), is called an output
device.

They perform the following functions:

1. Receive results from memory.
2. Convert data into human readable form.
3. Display results to the user.
Examples include: Monitor, printer, plotter, speaker, and
multimedia projector.
Findings
1. Input devices require active user involvement; without user input, they
do not generally send data to the computer.
2. Some output devices can operate without continuous user involvement;
for example, a printer can complete a print job while the user does
other tasks
3. It can transfer data to another device, but cannot receive any from it
4. Can obtain data from another device and can also produce output from
it. However, cannot transfer data to another device
5. It is a hardware device and is used to key in the data, instructions or
commands, into the computer
6. It is a hardware component, and it uses the data that is has received
from the computer to carry out a task
Conclusion
The functioning of a computer system is based on the
combined usage of both input and output devices. Using
an input device we can give instructions to the computer
to perform an action and the device reverts to our action
through an output device.
