Software
 Application software is :
user-written program's that is used to
perform certain specific jobs. For example
Microsoft Offices
 Microsoft Offices: a proprietary
commercial office suite of inter-related
application.
 Office contains Microsoft Word, Microsoft
Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint and
other applications in its package.
Microsoft Word /Word
Processor
 Word processing software allows you to
create, edit, format, print, and store text
material.
 Ms-Word is the most popularly used
word processing application software
that provides you with a number of
useful and fabulous features to process
the text.
 There are so many versions of Microsoft
word i.e Ms-word 2003,2007, 2010, 2016

Keyboard
 Used to enter
information into the
computer and for
giving commands.
 The keyboard in most
common use is the
QWERTY board.
 IBM and IBM
compatible PCs use
101 keyboard, so
called since they
have 101 keys.
 The cursor control
keys are duplicated
to allow easier use of
the numeric pad.
The following is a list of commonly
used keys
that have special function :
 Alt and Ctrl key- The command keys are used in
combination with another key or with the mouse. For
example the Alt + F4 key combination (press down the Alt
key, hold it down and press the F4 function key briefly
and then release both) close the program.
 Shift key-Like Alt and Ctrl, the Shift key is also used in
commands in combination with other keys.
 Enter key-When typing text, press Enter when you want
to produce a forced line feed ( e.g. at the end of a
paragraph and to create blank lines).
 Esc key-The Esc key is located to the left of the function
keys, in upper left corner of the keyboard. It can be used
to make a Cancel selection in a menu.
 Backspace-Pressing this key deletes the character to the
left of the cursor.

 Del (Delete) -This key deletes the character to the right of
the cursor.
 Caps Lock: This key will present the capitalized version of
each letter key. It is a toggle switch that locks until you press
it again.
 Spacebar: This key enters a space between words as you
type.
 Number keypad: This is a redundant keypad existing only
for user preference. It is not present on all keyboards.
 Arrow keys: Like the mouse, these keys are used to navigate
through the document.
 Tab: This key will force the cursor to indent, or jump forward
10 spaces.
 Function keys-F1 to F12 above the typing keys are called
the function keys and are used to execute special commands
or as shortcut keys.
Saving Document

 MS-Word, by default, saves all the


documents in the folder ‘My
Documents’ with extensions .docx.
 However, you can save them
elsewhere by selecting the desired
location, from the ‘Save in:’
dropdown list provided in the ‘Save
As’ dialog box.
Editing a Document

 Editing
is the act of altering your
document. Some Edit features are
insert and delete, undelete, find
and replace, cut/copy and paste,
spelling and grammar checker,
and thesaurus.
Formatting Documents

 Formatting text means changing the


text appearance by changing the
alignment, style, font and font color.
 To format text, you need to use the
Home tab.
Presentation software and
techniques
 Presentation software is a tool used to create
visual presentations in a slide show format,
and can be created with a variety of
programs.
 Microsoft PowerPoint is a presentation
software that is used to create on screen
slide shows, overhead projector slides
audience handouts and speakers notes, it is
a part of MS-Office suite of software.
 PowerPoint is the most widely used
presentation software.
Feature of a Presentation
Package
Some features of Presentation Packages are:
 A presentation package helps both: the speaker
with an easier access to his/her ideas and the
participants with visual information.
 Presentation packages can either supplement
or replace the use of older visual aid
technology, such as pamphlets, handouts,
chalkboards, flip charts, posters, and slides etc.
 Many presentation packages come with pre-
designed images (clip art) and/or have the
ability to import graphic images.

 With the growth of digital photography


and video, many presentation
packages can handle these types of
media to display them in a similar
“slide show” format.
 The “add ons” or plugins for
presentation packages can be used to
enhance their capabilities.
 Certain presentation packages can also
be used for web conferencing
Creating Slides using Text and Images

To start using PowerPoint:


 Click Start → All Programs →
Microsoft Office → Microsoft

Change Slide Layout

 The slide layout in PowerPoint is the


arrangement of all the items that make
up your slide, such as title,graphics or
text boxes.
To change the layout of slide, perform
the following steps:
Open the presentation.
Open the Home tab and click on the
Layout button from Slides command
group
Applying Animation and
Transition
Animation:
Animations are visual effects or
movements for the objects in
PowerPoint presentation.
Transition:
Transition is the visual effect that
occurs when you move from one slide
to the next during a presentation.

To apply animation to your PowerPoint


slide, perform the following steps:
 Open the slide to which you want to
apply the animation.
 Click on the Animations tab and
select the desired transition style
from the Transition to This Slide
command group
Presenting a Slide Show
 It is used to display the slides in a desired
sequence.
 In this view the slides are displayed one by one
from first slide to the last slide, in full screen
mode.
To start the Slide Show, perform the
following steps:
 Open desired power point
 Click the Slide Show tab.
 Click the From Beginning icon in the Start Slide
Show command group
 PowerPoint displays the first slide of your
presentation.
