THE WORLD WIDE WEB IS A SET OF PROGRAMS, STANDARDS AND
PROTOCOLS THAT ALLOWS THE WAY IN WHICH MULTIMEDIA AND
HYPER TEXT FILES ARE CREATED AND DISPLAYED AND LINKED ON
THE INTERNET.
Difference between WWW and Internet
WWW:
•It is a collection of documents, linked via special link called
hyper links.
•It is part of internet but is not the internet.
Internet:
• It is a collection of computers or networking devices
connected together.
• It consist of Forum, Research Database, USENET, Email,
Instant Messaging.

WEB SITE- A Web Site is a collection of related web
pages usually maintained by a single person or organization.
WEB PAGES- The document residing on web sites are
called Web Pages.(digital page hosted on internet)
WEB PAGE
• A web page is an electronic document on the World Wide Web.
• A web page is written in a computer language called
Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML).
• It can contain graphics, animations, sound and video.
• Web pages are connected and linked to each other by
Hyperlinks.
WEB BROWSER- A browser is a software that allows you to access
and navigate the World Wide Web. There are two types of web browsers-
1. Graphical browsers like Firefox, Internet Explorer,
Google Chrome, Safari, Opera, Netscape.
2. Text only browsers like Lynx.
WEB SERVER- A web server is a WWW server
that stores web documents and responds to the
request made by web browsers
HOME PAGE
Home Page is the first page one sees on entering a
website. It is linked to all other web pages on the web
site.
SEARCH ENGINE
A Search Engine is a software which helps to search for
information on the internet using keywords entered by the user.
It is particularly useful when the URLs of the site are unknown to
us.

URL (UNIFORM RESOURCE
LOCATOR)
Each website has an address which is called its URL.
The URL refers to the address of the web server on
which the web site is stored.

WEB SERVER
Web servers are big powerful computers which store web
pages and websites.
WEB ADDRESS
Each website has a unique address called URL
(Uniform Resource Locator).
Example of an internet address(URL)-
https ://www.youtube.com/channels
type address path
http: specifies the type of server in which the file is
located
www.youtube.com is the address of server
path tells the location of file on the server
e-MAIL
The electronic mail is the most widely used application on the
Internet. It can have text, pictures, videos and sounds as
attachment.
ADVANTAGES
fast and economical
a large number of e-mails can be sent to many people
simultaneously
text, pictures, videos and songs can also be mailed
reliable
DISADVANTAGES
Even a small error in the address will make the e-mail land in
the wrong place.
SYNTAX OF AN e-MAIL
ADDRESS
The syntax of an e-mail address is :
username@hostname
Example:
[email protected]Where,
radhika is the username
yahoo.com is the name of the host server
The host name is the name of the e-mail server which is
providing the e-mail address.
Client
•A client is a piece of computer hardware or software that
accesses a service made available by a server.
• client accesses the service by way of a network.
Web Client
•The client, or user, side of the Web. It typically refers to the Web browser
in the user's machine.
• The term may imply the entire user machine or refer to a handheld device
that provides Web access.
WEB BLOG
•A weblog or blog is a listing of text, images, or other objects that are arranged in
a chronological order that first started appearing in 1998.
•Blogs are often maintained and run by a single individual, updated daily, or contain
personal remarks about a topic, a personal ramble, or an update on the person's life.
• Weblogs are like a personal journal.
BLOGGING
The action of writing blog is called blogging.
BLOGGER
Author of blog is called blogger.
NEWSGROUP
A newsgroup is a discussion about a particular subject
consisting of notes written to a central Internet site and
redistributed through Usenet, a worldwide network of news
discussion groups.
FORUM
• discussion forum,discussion board, and forum is an
area where users share thoughts, ideas, or help by posting
text messages.
•Forums are different from chat because it is almost never live
and can be read at any time.
Difference between Server and Web Server
Server:
•A Server is a computer that has server software loaded
on to it and manages network resources.
• Handle resource request,
• Ex: File Server, Mail Server
Webserver:
• A Web server is specific protocol type that handle
HTTP request .
• Ex: http://www.cbse.nic.in/index.html (request send to
web server whose domain name is cbse.nic.in.

PROTOCOL [HTTP]
The hypertext transfer protocol is an
access method (method to access web
pages) used on Internet.
It is the primary access method for
interacting with Internet.
The http generally works in combination
with www.
The http is responsible for accessing
hypertext documents on world wide
