Chapter one
Background of the company

Ethiopia Engineering Corporation Construction (EEC) at Construction is a governmental

organization enterprise established in 2021 G.C. for about 4 years (2021-2025) E.C. .
The main Company work Experiences are on:-
• Debre Birhan university Rigid pavement parking water supply and Girder box bridge project

• Minister of Finance head office renovation project

• Ethiopia police university Force project

• Ethiopia Engineering Group Head quarter renovation project

• Commercial Bank of Ethiopia head quarter renovation project

Activity and internship responsibility
Site Activity
Laboratory Activity

1. Site Activities
 FDT
 Slump Test
 Material Production

1-Site Activity

FDT Test Slump Test

[Link] Production
• Production on Site
 materials production at crusher site ,for Concrete work, Base course and

Asphalt aggregate.
 Main site production : pipe , Tile ditch cover, borrow & etc.

 A C Production

Crusher Plant Asphalt Plant

3. Earth Work
• A. Clearing & Grubbing,20cm <<grass, Lose Soil Bushes and trees>>

• B. Excavation Cut and fill or Cut to spoil , Cut for Structural Work
Based on design
• C. Sub Grade Excavation 0.6-1m
• D. Sub Base Preparation ,22.5cm Thickness
• E. Base course Layer 17.5cm Thickness
• F. Asphalt Binder Course 5cm thickness
A. Clearing &
Grubbing
 Itis Removal of
grass , trees ,bushes
and lose soil up to
20cm Thickness
B. Excavation
C. Sub grade
Preparation
It’s the foundation of the pavement structure
on which the vehicle load and the weight of
the pavement layers finally rest and it is an in
a layer of selected material and compacted
to the properly drained desirable and receive
the pavement layer.

D. Sub Base Preparation

It’s the layer of material below the base course that
can have constructed by using locally available cheap
materials
E. Base Course Layer
base Couse or road base is a layer of
material laid down during the
construction of roads, pavements and
other infrastructure to provide a stable
foundation for the surface layer

F. Asphalt Wearing Surface

Is the top layer of a road or pavement made
of asphalt .
It’s the layer that directly comes into
contact with traffic and is designed to
provide a smooth ,durable and skid –
resistant surface for vehicles
Laboratory Activities
Laboratory Tests
A-Soil Classification Test
B-Liquid Limit ,Plastic Limit & L. Shrinkage Test
C-Proctor Test
D-CBR Test
E-Sieve Analysis Test
F-AC Mix Design
G-Concrete Mix Design
A-Soil Classification Test
And Sieve Analysis Test
• Soil classification is the separation of soil into classes or groups each having
similar behavior. A classification for engineering purposes should be based mainly
on mechanical properties e.g. permeability, stiffness and strength etc
• This method covers the determination of the particle size distribution of fine and
coarse aggregates
B-(Atterberg Limit) L.L,P.L &
L. Shrikage Test
The Liquid Limit of a soil is that water content,
at which the soil Passes From a plastic to a
liquid state.
The plastic limit of a soil is the lowest water
content at which the soil remains plastic .
Linear Shrinkage test is implies that
the soil specimen is changed in length
From that of original length after 24h
drying.
C-Proctor Test
The test is used to determine the maximum
dry density and the optimum moisture content
of soil sample (modified AASHTO T 180
compaction method.
D-Californian Bearing Ratio (CBR) Test
• CBR test is a penetration test used to measure the strength and swelling
potential of soil and evaluate the subgrade strength of roads and other
pavement materials for pavement design. The results of these tests are
used with the empirical curves from the graph to determine the thickness
of pavement and its component layers.
F- Asphalt Concrete Mix Design
• Asphalt pavements are the predominant
pavement
• type in the world. Asphalt is used for all types
• of applications—from residential streets to
• expressways, from parking lots to harbor
facilities,

Marshall mix design

G-Concrete Mix Design
It is the test that perform in the
laboratory before any types of
concrete is cast at site. The test
proceeding by sampling the
concrete ingredient from crusher

Chapter Three

Overall benefits gained from

internship
Familiar with the overall environment of road construction project
 Upgrading my earlier theoretical knowledge more and more at real
working place
I Learn more how to solve when I faced technical, management,
social, and practical challenges at the road project.
 I got a meaningful practical professional experience and etc…
Chapter four
Conclusion and recommendation
Conclusion

• After all, when I was in EEC construction for those 4 Month the internship program. The benefits of the
internship include;
 Allow me to both make and develop professional contacts, for my future job search.
 Assist me in developing greater understanding of own strength and weakness,
 Road construction work process
 Upgrade my theoretical knowledge at school
• Finally, in road construction project I know both practical and theoretical skills which is going together.

Recommendation
 I appreciate civil school to give the courses like quantity survey before the internship program.
I rise the hosting company by link of employees, punctuality, service and material delivery, quality,
and treatment of trainers. However, the employee’s grievance didn’t get quick response .
ERA must be completed the right of way problems before the contractor begins the construction works.
 The contractor shall be finished the site within the agreement period because when the time passes the overall cost increases
and the community services have been affected
.
