Test-Optional Admission
You Have Options
USU is test optional for admission. ACT/SAT scores are recommended for academic scholarships.
Admission Review
First-year applicants will be evaluated for admission based on their high school GPA.
High School GPA Requirements:
- 2.8-4.0 GPA - Admitted in Good Standing.
- 2.0-2.79 GPA - Considered for Earned Admission Pathway.
- 1.99 GPA & Below - Start at a USU open enrollment campus and transition to a four-year program anywhere in the USU System.
Academic Scholarships
This is the point where excellent grades, classes taken, and test scores help you save on tuition. USU will review all new first-year students using two different methods. This is where your grades, classes, and test scores can help lower your tuition costs.
1) Applying with Test Scores
When you apply for admission to USU with ACT/SAT scores, you are automatically considered for academic scholarships. A combination of your GPA and ACT/SAT test scores will determine your eligibility for academic scholarships.
2) Applying without Test Scores
USU is the first institution in Utah to automatically consider all newly admitted students for academic scholarships based on the “rigor” of their high school coursework. USU evaluates rigor through advanced classes such as AP, Concurrent or Dual Enrollment, Honors, and International Baccalaureate.
