Development of an IDE in C++ may actually be a pretty good project for students and enthusiasts of the language, and some might really enjoy using and IDE they helped create in some way. So there could be some benefit at least with regard to enjoyment of the project. I doubt my C++ skills are adequately developed to make a significant contribution to such a project yet. However, if I were to follow such a project from the start, this might change rapidly. So from a learning perspective, I'm intrigued.
