5.4.5 Export GIS Data to AutoCAD
Level of expertise required for this Chapter: Intermediate; general Map Maker training
AutoCAD is a CAD program for drawing engineering plans, widely used and known in Ghana. If a Local Plan is to be converted into this technical format for engineers, it will be most likely used in AutoCAD. The easiest exchange format is DXF.
Main menu > Utilities > Vector utilities > Export files > to DXF > Export from DRA to AutoCAD, Step 1 window: Choose source DRA file > Select folder and DRA file > Open > Next step > Step 2 window: Leave tick on �Export all objects to one feature layer named�� > Next step > Step 3 window: Leave default values (6 decimal places, 10 meters) > Next step > > Step 4 window: Choose target file > Specify new file name > Save > Finish > Confirm save.
You can import this DXF file in your AutoCAD installation.
Be aware, that AutoCAD is a drawing program and does neither contain a GIS topology with polygons and attribute data nor a fully geographical functionalities.
