Computer 23: Computer Design and Architecture
Objective:
To introduce the student to a very practical and prevalent
computer architecture, the architecture of a personal computer. The
student will be exposed to the basic building blocks in system
architecture. Fundamental design trade-offs will be exposed and
evaluated. Common design practices and a system level view of design
will be presented. Topics will include chip level components, board
design, and overall system development activities.
Knowledge:
Students will be able to understand the key concept of the
personal computer architecture. They will be able to understand
deeper the computer system architecture and hardware
communication.
Skills:
At the completion of this course the student will have mastered
the basic design skills necessary to architect, develop, and test
personal computer systems.
