From the Minister
I’m not sure
why this hit me as
such an epiphany
the other day. If I
say the word con-
temporary, others
will say traditional.
If I say modern,
others will say
classic. If I say I
like the new style,
certainly someone
else will say they
like old school. I haven’t even mentioned what we are talking about, and already we find words
that are polarizing. And in church we have another word for that—divisive. I’m not quite sure
why our polarizing preferences cause such divisions, but my experience has taught me that we
don’t do CHANGE very well. Saying the word CHANGE at church often brings our anxiety lev-
el up immediately. We began a sermon series this past week called “GROW.” And one of the
main ideas of any personal growth or church growth comes out of where we are willing to
change. Again, my experience has taught me that we don’t do well with that concept. But in
an interesting conversation, the word “VERSATILE” was used. And there came the epiphany.
Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:19-23— “19 Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself
a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To
those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win
those under the law. 21 To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not
free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. 22 To the weak I be-
came weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might
save some. 23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.”
And I began to think that maybe growth isn’t as much about CHANGING from one thing to
another, or switching from one thought or opinion to another, but that growth is allowing all of
those opinions, thoughts, characteristics, preferences, etc., to co-exist in the same person with
the ability to be VERSATILE. And get this—this is SO IMPORTANT—Paul says “SO THAT I
might SAVE some.” In what areas are you wiling to be VERSATILE so that you might save
someone else?
In His Service,
Allen G.

Your giving has resulted in decisions for Christ at Tri-
State Christian Camp over the summer. You have
been a real blessing to the people of Panama City.
Ross Hoffmeier baptized 26 kids last year through The
Shepherd’s Inn.
As of this moment we have no plans to add any mis-
sion but we want to make sure we are doing our due
diligence in researching and listening to any potential
mission partner. If/when we add another mission we
all hope to be able to add a foreign mission.
The Mission’s Team met with Donovan and Sarah Fitz-
gerald on August 28th. Donny and Sarah are planning
to go into the mission field in Berlin. Their decision to
go is partially a result of their interaction with Christian
Campus Fellowship at FSU.

part of our monthly Prayer Breakfast. Thank You Note To You From CCF
