Application Note: Universal Relay General Electric T60 Differential Relay 87 Module

This document provides instructions for using TDMS software to test a General Electric T60 differential relay 87 module. It describes how to set up a network model in TDMS to simulate faults, including power transformer vector groups, earthing transformers, and CT connections. It then guides the user through compensating for phase and zero sequence, setting the trip characteristic, performing automatic fault verification, and testing the harmonic restraint characteristic.

with TDMS software and DRTS 66
A completely new way of testing for
transformer differential protections
is now possible. In few steps the user
can easily set up a complete network
model for the best fault simulation:
. Power Transformer vector group
. Earthing transformers
. Current Transformers connections
(wye, delta)
. YDY Interposing transformers for a
proper phase and zero-sequence
compensation.

This application note will guide you step by step to perform tests on
Differential Relay, using TDMS software.

Set the Power Transformer vector group, the nominal primary and
secondary voltage and the rated power.

The magnitude compensation

factor must be calculated
according to the GE T60
formulas

Phase and zero sequence can be compensated internally by the

relay or externally with a proper CTs connection, in this example the
compensation is internal:

For General Electric relays the reference

winding for the phase shift compensation
is the first delta, in this case the reference
winding is the primary.

In case of external compensation, the user must disable the internal
Phase and Zero Sequence compensation and select the proper delta
connected CT group.

The number inside the relay picture

represents the phase shift between
the primary and secondary currents,
it is zero when the phase shift is well
compensated.

The trip characteristic can be set by copying directly the relay
parameters, the special GE T60 curve will be plotted automatically.

Decide the fault side and the

faulty phase and perform an
automatic verify of the trip
characteristic. The results are
stored in the results table and they are
displayed graphically for a quick and
easy analysis.
