LP Math IV

The document provides a lesson plan for teaching students how to find the volume of a rectangular prism. It outlines objectives, content, learning resources, and procedures for the lesson. The procedures include establishing context through an example word problem, discussing concepts like length, width, height and the volume formula, having students practice calculating volume in groups, and assessing learning through word problems. The goal is for students to understand and be able to apply the concepts of volume and the volume formula to real-world situations.

ELICIT
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson.

1. Drill:
Presenting the different terms that can be associated with the volume of
rectangular prism. (Integration in English)
 The pupils will give the correct answer that corresponds to the
description of each item.

The longest extent of

anything as measured length
from end to end.

The measurement or
extent of something
from side to side. width

The measurement of the height

distance of an object
from the base to the
top.

2. Review: COUNT ME ON!

Directions: Look at the figures carefully. Count the cubic units to find the
volume of each figure.

1. V = _____ units

2. V = _____ units

3. V = _____ units

4 . V = _____ units

5. V = _____ units

B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson

1. Motivation:
 The teacher will provide art materials inside the envelop to draw a
fishpond for a minute and they will describe it. (ARTS Integration)

Ask: How will you treat animals inside the fishpond? (Integration in Science)

ENGAGE
C. Presenting Examples/ instances of the new lesson

Directions: Read and analyze.

Ma’am Rona, Riza’s teacher saw Piolo and his daughter measuring the volume of
the rectangular fish pond. She told the two that it would be easier to get the volume by
measuring first the length, width and height of the pond. The teacher left and Riza helped
her father measure the pond. If the length is 8 meters, width is 5 meters and the height is
2 meters, what is the volume of the rectangular pond?

1. What is asked in the problem?

2. If you were Riza, would you do the same in helping your father? Why?
3. How would they solve for the volume of the pond if they use the measurements
of its length, width and height?
(Integration on EsP, Values)
EXPLORE

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1

Volume is the space a three-dimensional figure occupies. It is expressed in cubic units.

The number of unit cubes that is enclosed or contained in a figure is the measure of the
volume of the figure.

To find the volume of the rectangular fish pond we used this formula:
V=lxwxh
V stands for Volume
L stands for length
W stands for width
H stands for height

Now that we have understood the concepts of the different terms involved,
let us solve for the volume of Riza’s fish pond.
V=lxwxh
= 8m x 5m x 2m
V = 80 cubic m. The volume of Riza’s fish pond.
Say: cu.m is the same as m³ and it can be read as “cubic meters”.

Let us have another example:

A box is 10 cm long,
5 cm wide and 3 cm
tall. What is its
volume?

V=lxwxh
= 10cm x 5cm x 3cm
V = 150 cubic cm. The volume of a box.
