Ask the students:


1. Who do you think are the main characters of the story?
3.4. Analysis 2. What do you think will happen to them in the story?

Have the students read the fable The Carabao and the Snail.

One very hot day, a carabao went into the river to bathe. There
he met a snail and they began to talk.
“You are very slow,” said the carabao to the shell.
“Oh, no,” replied the snail. “I can beat you in a race.”
So they went out on the bank and started to run. The carabao
ran and ran.
Then he stopped and called out, “Snail!”
Another snail lying by the river answered, “Here I am!”
3.5. Abstraction
Then the carabao, thinking that it was the same snail, ran on.
By and by, he stopped again and called out, “Snail!” Again,
another snail answered, “Here I am!”
The carabao was dumbfounded. How could the snail
keep up with him?
He was determined to win, so he ran on and on. Every so often,
he would call out to the shell and another snail would answer
him.
He kept on going and going, up until he was completely
worn out from the race.
Have the students relate the fable to their life.

Ask the students:


1. Who are the characters of the story?
4. Assessment 2. What did the characters do?
3. How did the story end?
4. What lesson did you learn from the story?
