Recent Trends in Cancer Management

In recent years, traditional cancer treatments, such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment, etc., may damage the
pathological tissue and normal cells. The ideal tumor treatment should be noninvasive, eliminating the primary tumor, making
the body produce systemic tumor-specific immunity, eliminating metastases, and having less /no side effects. With the devel-
opment of immunotherapy and nanomedicine technology, scientists have promoted the transformation of tumor therapy from
the application of high-dose cytotoxic drugs in the past to targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and photoimmunotherapy, which
have good efficacy and less injury. To date, the first human study of PIT was used to treat inoperable head and neck cancer,
and the drug was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for fast-track global Phase III clinical studies in
2018. It will promote translation research to a clinical study aiming to minimize chemical sources damage and maximize
health benefits. So, we will collect the photoimmunotherapy drugs in advance to provide medicinal scientists to be kept the
latest information. These thematic issues will focus on research concerning photoimmunotherapy drugs in cancer manage-
ment: from phototherapy to immunotherapy [1].
Nanotechnology defines particulates within the 1x10-9 m range. Particulates within the nano-sized domain often exhibit
unique properties compared to their larger size scale. These can be exploited in biomedicine for applications such as imaging,
cell sorting, drug delivery and targeting. Antibacterial, antifungal, drug delivery and Cancer nanomedicine is rapidly becoming
one of the leading areas of promise for nanomedicine therapy, with first-generation treatments already available to patients.
This Special Issue invites articles and reviews which encompass the many areas under the nanomedicine umbrella, including
diagnostics, drug delivery and advanced therapies [2].
Cancer is a worldwide pandemic disease, represented by a set of over 100 subtypes of cancers, responsible for over 7 mil-
lion deaths. Inflammation is a worldwide health public problem, responsible for several deaths. Inflammation can be divided
into acute and chronic inflammation and 3 of 5 people die due to chronic inflammatory diseases like stroke, chronic respirato-
ry diseases, heart disorders, cancer, obesity, and diabetes. In this scenario, the necessity of new drugs able to effectively con-
trol and treat both diseases is quite required. In this direction, the development of biomaterials, including nanomaterials, for
both diagnosis and therapy of cancer and inflammation is a global urgency [3].
