Method Statement and work scope for commissioning of FM & LPC Fire Pumps
General
1. Attend site, meet relevant personnel and undergo relevant site induction.
2. Attend pump house to commence commissioning.
3. Check installation of the following to ensure they are acceptable to allow
commissioning to continue. (Note: If these following items are not carried
out prior to arranged date of commissioning there will be a charge for a
call back visit)
• Pipe-work to and from pump and pipework supports.
• Fuel lines including fuel tank and fittings.
• There must be adequate Diesel fuel for a minimum 2 hour test run.
• Exhaust pipe arrangement completed.
• Concrete base.
• Steel packers under baseplate.
• Drain and flow pipes.
• Single & 3 phase A/C supply available.
• Batteries are filled ready for use.
• Engine to control panel wiring must be in place.
Diesel Pump
1. Pull down grout bolts.
2. Check alignment of pump to engine to identify any pipe strain.
3. Check alignment is within SPP’s specification.
4. Record face and periphery readings.
• Prior to working on control panel ensure circuit breakers are switched off.
• Ensure main lead to starter motor is removed to prevent the engine
starting. This should be left isolated for the duration of the commissioning
until the engine requires running.
• Connect battery leads if not already carried out (Please note it is the
responsibility of the installer to ensure the batteries are filled and
charged).
• Energise circuit breakers to bring panel on line.
Check voltage to panel is correct using a calibrated multi-meter.
• Energise circuit breakers to battery chargers.
• Check float voltage of battery chargers using calibrated test meter.
Page 2
• Test high water and low oil temperature switches.
• When starter motor cable reconnected, test panel for six attempt start
operation. (This is achieved by cranking the engine while stopping the
supply of fuel at the fuel pump).
• Set pressure switches as per customer requirements. These are tested to
earth using calibrated test meter.
• Test the test sequence, shut downs and chart reader. (FM sets only)
5. Charge pump with water check for leaks.
6. Ensure pump oil level is correct where applicable.
7. Carry out manual test start checking cooling water flow and engine run
signal are operating correctly. Carry out auto start from pressure drop
8. Carry out half hour duty test on full load and record results.
9. Check bearing temperatures and Gland leakage where applicable.
Electric Set
1. Pull down grout bolts.
2. After ensuring set is electrically isolated remove coupling guard and check alignment of
pump to motor to check for pipe strain. Check alignment is within SPP’s specification.
3. Record face and periphery readings, use shims if required to adjust alignment to within
specification this would require the motor/ pump holding down bolts be loosened to allow
movement of motor/ pump. Bolts would be tightened when alignment is acceptable.
4. Check electrical installation of wiring to starter panel and from starter to motor by putting
calibrated test meter on cables to check for any shorts.
5. Have electric supply restored to panel. Carry out jerk start test to check motor rotation.
6. Charge pump with water and check for leaks by opening suction valves.
7. Ensure pump oil level is correct where applicable.
8. Carry out manual test start of pump checking cooling water flow is as required.
9. Carry out auto start from pressure drop.
10. Carry out half hour duty test on full load and record results using on site flow measuring
equipment, pump gauges and panel ammeters.
11. Check bearing temperatures, gland leakage where applicable.
12. Check panel indicators are functioning correctly.

Jockey Pump if applicable
1. Check installation.
2. Check motor connections.
3. Check pressure switch water pressure line connection.
4. Visually check wiring connections in jockey pump starter.
5. Check AC voltage using a calibrated test meter on live terminals.
6. Set overload protection in jockey pump starter.
7. Start pump momentarily to check rotation.
8. Prime and test the pump.
Commissioning of Remote Alarm Panel if Applicable
1. Check panel installation and wiring.
2. Check voltage to panel using a calibrated test meter on live terminals.
3. Connect battery if panel is DC operation.
4. Visually check panel indicators in conjunction with pump panel operation.
5. Carry out visual checks on indicators in conjunction with diesel pump
operations.
Pressure Testing During Commissioning
SPP will undertake a flow test of the pump to duty point and record the
results. This is the full extent of SPP’s involvement in pressure testing the
installation.
