Waste management
In this quarter, to reduce land pollution, proponent embarked onto waste segregation into different compartments
that is metal, paper, plastic, and rubber. There is need for the building of good drainages systems to carter for used
water which is being left flowing all over the area (around the service station area) and improvements on the color
coded bins which is pronounced source of waste segregation. Oil contaminated soil from service station is not
being collected for treatment. The contaminations is caused by diesel leakages from diesel tanks, garage
operations during the fueling of the conveyance systems. This results in the contamination of the ground water
systems therefor, pavements and drainage systems are needed. Apart from contamination, leakages are most
likely to result to hazards such as fire which can cause more harm to the environment and those working on it. The
figure below shows stagnant water near the staff accommodation blocks.
Sewer system
To curb water pollution, the proponent installed a manhole to support the sewer system, but a lot is still needs to
be done at the main sewer system.to prevent ground water contamination, the sewer system needs to be suitably
lined as per requirements. The sewer system at the plant is very small as compared to the number of workers at th
plant. to strike a balance , some of the workers should be relocated to the site where the new project is to be
located. The proponent should cover up the sewer system so to protect the coworkers’ from being affected by
diseases. This is because the sewer system is too close and open to the area in which that they will be working
hence diseases transmit very fast. The sewer system being open the workers are tempered to throw both litter and
waste material into the system.

ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING
MONITORING LOCATIONS
There are no monitoring points established yet at mine. However, with growth of smelter the proponent shall monitor water quality, air quality,
deforestation, erosion among others key issues.
WATER QUALITY MONITORITY
Water quality monitoring was conducted during quarter. The samples were collected and forwarded to the University of Zimbabwe where it
was tested.
AIR QUALITY MONITORING
Air quality is largely compromised by particulate matter from dust and furnace emissions. That dust results from stored raw materials such as
coal and etraction of mineral ore. Concurrently, stack emission survey for the furnace was conducted by sustiGlobal and a licence was applied.
The proponent managed to provide all workers with sufficient PPE which encompases dust maskers, hard hats, safety shoes and all the safety
required for the protection of workers. The proponent has to improve air ventilation in tha patse floor, the area in which chrome ores enters ,
this is so to protect the health of the workers.

CONCLUSION
This quarterly monitoring survey has identified positive economic impacts that will improve the wellbeing of the
people and the environment. The project will have minimal negative impacts as the project will be done according
to the best environmental practices. The inherent minimal risk association with the project will further be
mitigated with proper excursion of the proposed mitigation measures and monitoring plan alongside proper
maintenance as presented in the environmental management plant.
A comprehensive environmental management program that was presented in the EIA report with appropriate
measures and action plans should always be referred to by the proponent if the project is to remain sustainable. Of
paramount vitality are the conditions that are endorsed at the back of EIA certificate, those should be religiously
followed to ensure sustainability with regards to this project.
RECCOMENDATIONS
The consultant further recommends that, the proponent take all possible measures to prevent any adverse
impacts relating to the project on the bases of the study findings, the following are recommended;
1. Develop, rollout and implement occupational safety, various legal notices in order for the proponent to be
in compliance with local she related and legal requirements.
2. Dust suppression measure should be done as per schedule to project employees and the local
environment
3. Undertake she training needs analysis for the building staff and once concluded, arrange to provide
relevant she trainings to foster their commitment to the facility’s HSE standards and regulations
4. In a move to mitigate unforeseeable impacts linked to this project, the proponent should put in place and
maintain an open door policy so as to ensure cross pollination of ideas between the proponent and the
host community.
5. Sulphure dioxide was not detected in all the stakes that were tasted or it was simply absence. This was
due to the fact that the plant is using cleaner energy source that is more pure carbon than coal.
6. Some scrubbers and filters should be installed to reduce the particulates and more oxygen should be
added to reduce CO production
7. Ensure the quarterly reporting is taken seriously by allocating enough resources toward sit to ensure that
all benefits associated with it are realized by the organization.
8. All areas that need to be rectified as discussed in chapter 3 should be the proponent’s priority
The consultant believes that a closer adherence to the requirements of the EMP as premised in this report is the
best way to ensure sustainable development.
