2. Executive Summary
This proposal seeks funding and stakeholder engagement for constructing a Mini Environment
and Tourism Park at EBKUST Magburaka Campus. The project aims to promote environmental
awareness, ecotourism, and biodiversity conservation while serving as a recreational and
educational space for students, faculty, and the local community. The park will feature botanical
gardens, walkways, eco-friendly seating areas, and educational kiosks on environmental
sustainability. This initiative aligns with national and global sustainability goals and will foster
community engagement, research, and tourism in the region.
3. Background & Problem Statement
Context
Magburaka, located in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone, has limited green spaces for
recreation and environmental education. The EBKUST campus lacks a dedicated environmental
awareness and tourism facility to support sustainable development education and leisure
activities.
Needs Assessment
Lack of green spaces: Absence of structured eco-tourism and conservation areas.
Limited environmental education infrastructure: No dedicated facility to engage
students and the community in sustainability efforts.
Unutilized land: Available university land can be transformed into a functional and
sustainable environment and tourism hub.
