About This Chapter

1.1 Application Scope
1.2 Upgrade Schemes
1.3 Applicable Versions
1.4 Upgrading Ways
1.5 Impact of the Upgrade
1.6 Upgrading notice

1.1 Application Scope

The upgrading situation:
Upgrading the firmware of SNS2124, SNS2224 or SNS2248 FC switch to version v7.1.0a .

1.2 Upgrade Schemes

The upgrading could be operated online. Upgrading online is a solution with high reliability
and high availability, without disturbing normal operation. Once finishing downloading
firmware files, the system could complete the firmware upgrading by default.

1.3 Applicable Versions

The version v7.1.0a is the first version of SNS2124, SNS2224 and SNS2248 FC switch. The
SNS V1R2 serial switch(SNS2124,SNS2224,SNS2248) do not support upgrades from more
than one previous release. For example, upgrading from Fabric OS v7.0.x to v7.1.0 is
supported, but upgrading from Fabric OS v6.4.x directly to v7.1.0 is not supported. Upgrading
a switch from Fabric OS v6.4.x to v7.1.0 is a two-step process—first upgrade to v7.0.x, and
then upgrade to v7.1.0.

Upgrade Guide 6 FAQ

6.2 A.6 There may be an problem when the SNS2124

connect other device, which the fillwords are not
matched. How is it affected and how to avoid the blight?
Question
When SNS2124 switch connect other devices, as port speed configured to 8 Gbps, the
fillword could not be matched any more. How is it affected and how to avoid the blight?

Answer
SNS2124 switch is OEM from Brocade 300, which is Brocade 8 Gbps FC switch. While this
problem is universal for Brocade 8 Gbps switch when the port speed is configured to 8 Gbps.
When the port speed changed to 8 Gbps, SNS2124 sends the IDLE fillword, while other
devices may send the ARB(ff) fillword. As the fillword are not matched, the link between
SNS2124 and other devices can not be held. It may lose the frame in the beginning, and the
link break.
Changing the fillword of SNS2124 switch could avoid the blight. There are few fillword
policy with Brocade 8 Gbps switch, while it takes the IDLE/IDLE policy when the port speed
is 8 Gbps. The blight could be avoided by change the Brocade fillword policy manually.
1. Get into SNS2124 from CLI.
2. Change fillword policy to ARBFF/ARBFF with “portcfgfillword 0 1”command,thus the
fillword is matched to other devices’ fillword policy.
