Assignment: Probability& Statistics (Unit I)

Programme: [Link]. Semester: II Paper Code: BSC-104-G Academic Year: 2024-25

Max Marks: 20 Last Date of Submission: 14-4-25

Course Outcome:

1. 1. To identify a random variable that describes randomness or an uncertainty in certain

realistic situation. It can be either discrete or continuous type.
2. 2. To learn important probability distributions like: in the discrete case, study of the
Binomial and the Poisson Distributions and in the continuous case the Normal
Distributions.
3. 3. To build the linear relationship between two variables and also to predict how a
dependent variable changes based on adjustments to an independent variable.
4. 4. To interpret the types of sampling, sampling distribution of means and variance,
Estimations of statistical parameters.
5. 5. To give comprehensive knowledge of probability theory to make inferences about a
population from large and small samples.

Q -1 Define Sigma Space and Probability measure.

Q-2 Write a short note on Independent Random Variables.

Q-3 Define multinomial distribution.

Q-4 If X and Y are independent random variable then show that𝐸(𝑋𝑌) =

𝐸(𝑋). 𝐸(𝑌).

Q-5 State and prove Chebyshev’s inequality.

Q-6 A purse contains 2 silver and 4 copper coins and a second purse contains 4 silver
and 3 copper coins. If a coin is selected at random from one of the two purses, what is
the probability that it is a silver coin?

Q-7 A manufacturer knows that the condensers the makes contains on the average 1%
defective. He packs them in the boxes of 100. What is the probability that a box
picked at random will contains 3 or more faulty condensors?
Q-8 Four coins are tossed. What is the expectation of number of heads?
