Review:

Before we proceed to our new topic in the

fourth quarter let us have a sort of review.

Say something about the word flash on

the screen.

Permutation A permutation is the arranging of

objects in which order is
Combination important.

In combination, the order is not

important.

Probability Probability is a branch of

mathematics that deals with
chance.

Activity:

“Mathematics Family Feud”

Are you familiar with the game family feud Yes Ma’am.
class?

So, let’s have that today!

Are you excited?

Yes Ma’am.
But before that, let’s have the mechanics
of the game. This survey game is a group
activity. I will give each group a show-me
board and please prepare a marker. I will
ask survey questions, you need to guess
the top answer to the survey. Each top
answer has a corresponding score. I will
give 5 seconds for each question. After
that, I will say show me the board then,
just raise your answer. Record your score
in ¼ piece of paper.

Do you understand class?

Yes, Ma’am.
Let’s start the game.

Round 1:

Name something parents tell their kids

not to waste. The student writes food, money,
time, personal things

Survey says…
The top answer is food, next is money,
then time, and the last is personal things.

Group 1 got the top answer, followed by

Group 2, Group 4, Group 3, and Group 5.

Round 2:

Name something people buy to show they

are successful. The student writes house & lot,
car/motorcycles, jewelries, luxury

The top answer is house & lot, next is the
car/motorcycles, then jewelries, and the
last is luxury items.

Round 3:

Name something people like to do when The student writes singing,

listening to music. dancing, sleeping, studying
Survey says…
The top answer is singing, the next is
dancing, then sleeping, and the last is
studying.

And the last round

Round 4:

Name a recreational activity traditionally

done in hot weather. The student writes swimming,
Write your total score on ¼ piece of paper eating halo-halo, eating ice cream,
and pass it to me. drinking cold drinks

So, the highest score is Group 1.

Congratulations Group 1!
Thank you, Ma’am.

A. Lesson Activity: Watch a video about the Basic

Proper Concepts of Statistics.

Activity Direction: List as many terms as possible

that were mentioned in the video and
their definitions.

Is that clear class? Yes Ma’am.

Analysis Question:

Based on the video you watched, what are

the terms you have listed?

I want you to answer Juliana,

Based on the video, Statistics can
be defined as the collection and
interpretation of data.

Very good, Juliana.

What else? The two kinds of statistics are

descriptive statistics and
inferential statistics.
Very good!

Population refers to the total

amount of things.

Sample refers to a small part of

the population that is used for
study.

What we are studying is

categorized, countable, and
measurable.

Abstraction The Statistical terms:

 Statistics - is a branch of
mathematics which deals with the
collection, classification, and
representation of any kind of data
to ease the analysis and
understanding.

Two Kinds of Statistics

1. Descriptive Statistics - a branch

of statistics that is concerned with
describing the characteristics of the
known data.
2. Inferential Statistics - the
practice of using sampled data to
draw conclusions or make
predictions about a larger sample
data sample or population.

 Variables - a characteristic that

can be measured and that can
assume different values.

Two different forms of Measurable

Variable

1. Quantitative Data- measures of

values or counts that are expressed
as numbers. Data about numeric
variables (e.g. how many, how
much, or how often).
2. Categorical Data- is qualitative,
describing an event using a pattern
of words rather than numbers.
(examples of categorical variables
are race, sex, age group, and
educational level).

 Population - refers to the entire

group or set of individuals, objects,
or events being studied.

 Sample - is a subset of the

population that is used for analysis.

 Measures of Central Tendency-

the central tendency is the central
value of a set of grouped or
ungrouped data. Central tendency
does not depict any individual value
of the data set. However, it gives
the overall summary of the set of
data.

There are three measures of central

tendency namely mean, median, and
mode.

 Mean- is the measure of the

average of a set of values which
can be calculated by dividing the
sum of all the observations by the
number of observations.
 Median- is the middle value of the
given data set.
 Mode- is the observation in the
data set which occurs most
frequently.

 Measures of Position- are

techniques that divide a set of data
into equal groups

The Different Measures of Position

are:

 Quartile- are the score points that

divide a distribution into four equal
parts.
 Decile- the nine score points which
divide a distribution into ten equal
parts.
 Percentile- the ninety-nine score
points which divide a distribution
into one hundred equal parts.

(Answers of students may vary

1. Have you wondered why from them)
statistics is important?
2. What do you think are the uses
of statistics in real life?

USES AND IMPORTANCE OF

STATISTICS:

1. Mostly used to keep records

2. Calculate probabilities
3. Provide knowledge
4. Used to conduct research
5. Evaluate outcomes
6. Develop critical thinking
7. Make informed decisions No Ma’am.
Do you have any questions class?

Application Group Activity

Aside from the enumerated uses and

importance of statistics, what do you
think, as a student is the use or
importance of statistics in your life?

Take note of our Rules for Group

Activity:

1. Read and understand the question

carefully.
2. Share your ideas and cooperate
with your group members.
3. Work silently.
4. Perform your task on time.
Yes Ma’am.
I will give you 5 minutes to work with
your group. Your time starts now.
Do you understand class?
