COURSE OBJECTIVE:
In this course we study a branch of mathematics, called linear algebra, and some of its
applications. This course introduces fundamental concepts in Matrices, System of linear
equations and Vector Spaces to the engineering students. The objectives of this course are:
To introduce students with the Matrices and their basic operations. To find solutions of Linear
equations using various methods. To gain an appreciation for the applications of linear algebra
to areas of engineering and sciences. To introduce Vector Spaces and relevant topics and how
they are used in linear transformations between vector spaces.
COURSE OUTLINE:
MATRICES: Introduction, Transpose, Types of Matrices, Matrix Operations, Elementary Row
Operations, Echelon Form and Reduced Echelon Form., System of Linear Equations:
System of Homogeneous and Non-Homogeneous Linear Equations, Guass Elimination
Method, Guass Jordan Method and other Methods, Applications, Inverse of Matrix,
Characteristic Equations, Eigenvalues and Eigenvectors.
Vector space: Vector spaces, orthogonal transformations, Linear combinations, Linear
dependence, Linear independence and Bases, Inner Product Space and Quadratic forms.
