Page 1CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
F.M.
Signals from the telescopic aerial are fed via the matching coil L2 to TX1, an
rf. amplifier which is Operated in the common base mode. The parallel circuit L1
and C3 provides a shunt impedance to frequencies outside the required Band II.
In the collector of TX1 is the circuit which is tuned with the gang capacitor Cv1,
The signal passes from this Circuit to TX2, the common base mixer oscillator,
which has as its collector load the oscillator circuit Cv2 and L5 and the if. trans-
former L6 and L7.
The single tuned transformer L6/L7 is coupled to the base of TX3, which
functions as the 1st f.m. if. amplifier. The signal from the collector of TX3 is coupled
by the single tuned transformer L16 and L17 to TX4. A tapping on L16 feeds a
Neutralizing signal via C18 to the base of TX3 to improve its stability. From TX4
the signal passes to TXS, the 3rd f.m. if, amplifier, via L20 and L21. C26 again
provides neutralizing feedback to give improved stability. From TX5 the signal passes
through the ratio detector and then to the top of the volume control,
AM.
Signals induced in the ferrite tod and tuned with the gang capacitor Cv3 are
coupled via L10 or L11 into the base of TX3, which is the a.m. mixer oscillator.
The collector of TX3 is switched to either L12/L13 or L14/L15, the oscillator coils
which are tuned by the gang capacitor Cv4 and both series feed the base of TX3
through windings L10 or L11 on the ferrite rod. The if signal passes to L18 and
L19, the 1st a.m. if. transformer, and then to TX4, the 1st a.m. i.f, amplifier. From
the collector of TX4 the signal passes through L20 to L22 and L23, the 2nd a.m. if.
transformer, which again has neutralizing feedback provided by C27. The signal is
then fed to TX5, the 3rd a.m. if. amplifier, which drives L24 and L25 via 127.
Feedback is again neutralized by C31. The signal is then fed to the a.m. detector
D3. A diode D2 is used to Stabilize the base currents against falling battery voltage.
The slider of the volume control also has C43 in series with C9 connected between
it and earth to provide fixed tone correction on a.m. only.
Page 2AUDIO
Signals from the volume control are fed to TX6, the audio amplifier, and then
directly to TX7, the driver. The transformer L30, L31 and L32 serves as a phase
splitter to feed the output pair, TX8 and TX9. These are transformer coupled to
the loudspeaker. R45 and C49 provide a switched treble cut tone control and R48
is a temperature dependant resistor providing thermal stabilization.
OPENING THE RECEIVER FOR SERVICING
Remove the two Philips headed screws from the back of the case. Holding
the back of the case in one hand, ease the bottom of the front of the case out from
the back with the fingers of the other hand. The top of the front of the case is
located in the top of the back by two small lugs. Slide the front of the case away
from the top of the back, and pull the front out slightly. Now slide the front, with
the attached tone and waveband switches, out sideways from the back of the case,
being careful not to overstrain the battery and aerial 4eads. Lay the two halves of
the case face down.
To remove the printed circuit board first remove the two round-headed
Philips screws from the board face. Lift the control end until the board is clear of
the speaker magnet and slide the board out from its locating slots.
To reassemble the case locate the tone and waveband switches in the back
half of the case. Bring the two halves together until it is possible to fit the socket
panel. Ensure that the socket panel is fitted the correct way round, and that the
wires connected to it are not trapped when the front of the case is lowered into
the back. Locate the top lugs of the front of the case in the top of the back of the
case, and gently press the two halves of the case together. Finally, secure the two
halves with the two Philips headed screws.

ALIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
AM.
Connect a signal generator, modulated at 1kHz to a depth of 30%, to a shielded
test coil (85 turns of enamel covered wire on a 2” diameter former). Position the
test coil so that it is coaxially in line with, and a few inches from the m.w. end of
the ferrite rod. Follow the instructions set out below and adjust for maximum output.
