Many people are struggling with our current situation because of the Pandemic.
Everyone is scared and don’t know what to do to prevent the virus from spreading.
2
The government has mandated the health protocols; one of which is getting the
body temperature of everybody. Thermal gun scanner and the thermometer is the
device used to know whether the temperature is high or low. The average normal body
temperature is generally accepted 37°C. When a person’s temperature exceeds
37.6°C it is necessary to consult a doctor to be proactive and not to infect others.
1. What is the device use to get the body temperature?
2. What is the normal body temperature?
Here is a thermometer
Positive Number
Neutral (Zero Degrees)
It gives reading above and below zero which indicates opposite values.
Let us compare the thermometer to this number line.
How is the thermometer similar to this number line? They have the same
representation of numbers, Zero is at the middle. The kind of numbers are to the right
3
of zero is called positive numbers and the numbers left from zero is called negative
numbers. This new set of numbers is known as the Integers.
Integers are whole numbers that can be positive, negative or zero. Zero is
neither positive nor negative. As we move to the left of zero the value of the number
decreases .and as we move the number right of zero the value of the number
increases .These are indicated by writing “ + “before the number into positive such as
+ 7, +3 and etc. The “ – “ sign is a negative number such as - 2, - 3, and so on. If
going up it is also indicated by a “ + “ sign. Then going down is indicated by “ – “.
We can compare the set of positive and negative integers to many things.
Positive Integers Negative Integers
• Cash on Hand • Debts
• Move forward • Move backward
• Gain profit • Loss
• Increase • Decrease
• Going up (above) • Going down (below)
• Going (North or East) • Going (South or west)
3 units to the left 3 units to the right
Look at the phrase on the number line .It shows that the two integers with the
same distance from Zero, the distance called Absolute Value of the integers. The
symbol for the absolute value is | | .
+3 is 3 units from zero while -3 is also 3 units from zero .Therefore:|+3 | and |-
3 | is 3; read as the absolute value of positive 3 and the absolute value of negative 3
is 3. The absolute value of an integer is always a positive number.
Integers placed on the opposite sides of the number line with the same distance
from zero are called Additive Inverse
Example : The absolute value of +2 is 2. We write | 2 |= 2
The absolute value of -11 is11. We write | -11 |= 11
Example: The additive inverse of -10 is +10
The additive inverse of +32 is -32
4
Example 1: Name the absolute value of the given number.
3. |7| = 7 b. |-35| = 35 c. |5| = 5 d. |-150| = -150
Example 2: Express the following situation as integers.
1. Receives ₱ 200 = + 200
2. Weight loss of 3 kg = - 3 kg
3. 150 km north = + 15
Example 3: In a number line we can also show the location of the integers being
described.
6 units to the left of 0
a.
7 units to the right of - 2 is 5
A. Direction: Express the following as either 0, positive or negative.
_____ 1. Salary of ₱ 20,000.00
_____ 2. Saving of ₱ 500.00 a week
_____ 3. Spent ₱ 30.00 a day

B. Illustrate the following integers in a number line.
4. 5.
2 units to the right of 1 2 units to the left of -3
The ______ of integers is made up of zero, positive and negative
integers.
The value of the positive integer as it is moved further to the right? _______, and
the value of a negative integer as it moved further to the left of zero? _______.
The two integers with the same distance from zero in the number line? _______.
_______.is the sign for the absolute value
We are all affected by the Pandemic. Everything changed. Our
luxuries then can no longer be followed or given by our parents such as buying us
Jollibee because of lack of budget. As a child, how can you help lessen your parents’
worries about your needs in the family?
A. Represent each of the following by integers. Encircle the letter of the correct

__________4. {-1, -2, -3, -4, -5}
__________5. {A temperature of 2°C below zero, 40 meters below sea level}
Egie boy suffered from fever with a temperature of 37.8°C when his mother
brought him to the hospital, the doctor immediately gave the medicine to be taken up
by Egie. Egie was given his medicine. After an hour his body temperature dropped
by 0.5°C. After an hour of taking the medicine, what was Eggie’s body temperature?
A. Compare integers with whole numbers.
Number gets smaller Number gets larger
On the number line, the value of the number to the right of the given number
is always greater than the value of the number to the left.
8
The positive integers are greater than negative integer. Zero is less than every
positive integer and greater than every negative integer.
a.) 1. - 4 < - 3
2. Increased by 2 points < increased by 4 point
3. Eight steps backward < 4 steps forward
B. Compare Integers with fractions
There are 2 ways in comparing integers with fractions
First - Look at the number line and determine which number placed
on the left and which number placed on the right.
- The number on the left of zero is always lesser than the number on
the right and the number on the right of zero is always greater than
the number on the left.

We have to compare 1 -
4
1
Step I – We will divide the line into 4 equal parts for each part is
4
2
Step I
Step II- 4 is the unit to the left of 1 and falls between 0 and 1.
− is the unit to the left of 1 and falls between 0 and 1.
So 2 < 1
4
Second – looking at the common denominator
2
Compare to 1
4
a. Find the LCD
2 1
4 1
b Multiply both numerator and denominator by 4
2 1 4 2 4
_ 1 x 4 =4 4
4
9
c. Compare the numerator
2 < 4
4 4
2 is less than 4
3
C. Comparing Integers and Decimals
1. Comparing Integers
Ex .2 -6
a.) Look at the position of the given example in the number line.
- The number going to the right is bigger number and the number
going to the left is lesser number.
- Therefore.
2 > -6
2. Comparing decimal
Example 1 a. .Line up the decimals.
11.9
12.29
b. Compare the whole number part
11.9
12.29
So , 11 is less than 12 no need to go to the decimal
place
Example 2
4.4
4.45
c. fill in the empty place with zero
10
4.40
4.45
d. Compare the decimal in the hundredths place
4.4 0
4.4 5
0 is less than 5 so, 4.40 < 4.45
Compare the integers using >, < or = on the line.
1
1 1 2. 44.2 44.24 3. -6 -5 4 . 0.9 1 5. -1 - 3
