MULTIPLY. SIMPLIFY THE
ANSWER IF POSSIBLE
•1) 3 x 200 = 600
•2) 45 x 2 1= 945
•3) 63 x 0.3 = 18.9
•4) 0.4 x 86 = 34.4
•5) 1.2 x 2/3= 0.8
Let us first recall base, rate and percentage. In the
equation below, identify the rate, base and
percentage

20% x 8 = 1.6
20% X 8 = 1.6
•a) 20% is the ____. RATE

•b) 8 is the ____. BASE

•c) 1.6 is the ____. PERCENTAGE
What if you only have 20% x 8?
How will you solve for the percentage?
• Let us find the percentage of 20% x 8 by
changing the rate to a decimal:
• 1. Write the expression as an equation.
20% x 8 = N
• 2. Change 20% to a decimal. 20% = 0.20
• 3. Multiply 0.20 x 8. 0.20 x 8 = N
• 1.6 = N
Let us now solve for 12% of 60.
• In Mathematics, the term of means multiply
and the term is means equal to. The blank
can be any letter. Therefore, “12% of 60 is
____” can be written as 12% x 60 = N. We now
solve for the percentage following steps
above.
• 12% x 60 = N
• 0.12 x 60 = QN
• 7.2 = N
LET US MOVE ON TO ANOTHER WAY OF
FINDING THE PERCENTAGE – BY
CHANGING THE RATE TO FRACTION.
• Let us again use 20% x 8.
• Write the expression as an equation.
20% x 8 = N
• Change 20% to a fraction.
• 20% = 20/100
• Multiply 20/100 x 8
• 20/100 x 8 = N
• 1.6 = N
FIND THE PERCENTAGE BY
CHANGING THE RATE TO:
• To find the percentage, change the rate to a
decimal or a fraction, then multiply with the
base.
• If the rate is less than 100%, the percentage
is less than the base.
• If the rate is 100%, the percentage is equal to
the base.
• If the rate is more than 100%, the percentage
is more than the base.
Identify if the percentage will be less
than, equal to, or more than the base.
Choose the letter of the correct answer.
a. Less than b. Equal to c. More than
• 1) 36% of 75 • 6) 100% of 16
• 2) 104% of 90 • 7) 200% of 59
• 3) 15 5 2 % x 175 • 8) 65% x 138
• 4) 1005 x 251 • 9) 2 1 % x 500
• 5) 100.1% x 304 • 10) 110 4 1 % x 1

Find the percentage of
numbers 1 to 10 given in A.

• 1) 36% of 75 • 6) 100% of 16
• 2) 104% of 90 • 7) 200% of 59
• 3) 15 5 2 % x 175 • 8) 65% x 138
• 4) 1005 x 251 • 9) 2 1 % x 500
• 5) 100.1% x 304 • 10) 110 4 1 % x 1
