Project

This document provides formulas for calculating the surface area and volume of various 3D shapes. It defines surface area as the total area of the outer surface of an object. Formulas are given for calculating the total surface area, lateral surface area, and volume of cubes, cuboids, cylinders, cones, spheres, and hemispheres. For each shape, the relevant formulas are displayed and explained. In closing, the student thanks the reader for viewing the presentation.

WHAT IS SURFACE AREA?

The area occupied by a three-dimensional object by its

outer surface is called the surface area. It is also measured
in square units.
Generally, Area can be of two types:
(i) Total Surface Area.
(ii) Curved Surface Area/Lateral Surface Area.
What is Volume?

 A volume is simply defined as the

amount of space occupied by any three-
dimensional solid
 These solids can be a cube, a cuboid, a

cone, a cylinder or a sphere.

 Different shapes have different

volumes.
Different types of Shapes.

Cube Cylinder Sphere

Cuboid Cone Hemisphere

CUBE

 Total Surface Area (TSA) = 6a2

 Lateral Surface Area (LSA) = 4a²

 Volume (Vol.) = a3
CUBOID

 Total Surface Area (TSA) = 2(lb+bh+hl)

 Lateral Surface Area (LSA) = 2h(l+b)

 Volume (Vol.) = l × b × h
CYLINDER

 Total Surface Area (TSA) = 2πr(r + h)

 Curved Surface Area (CSA) = 2πrh

 Volume (Vol.) = π r² h
CONE

 Total Surface Area (TSA) = πr(r + l)

 Curved Surface Area (CSA) = πrl

 Volume (Vol.) = ⅓ 𝜋r2h

 Slant Height (l) =

SPHERE

 Total Surface Area (TSA) = 4πr²

 Curved Surface Area (CSA) = 4πr²

 Volume (Vol.) = 4/3 π r³

HEMISPHERE

 Total Surface Area (TSA) = 3𝜋r2

 Curved Surface Area (CSA) = 2𝜋r2

 Volume (Vol.) = (2/3)πr3
