In division, the number that we
divide is called the dividend
The number by which we divide is
called the divisor.
The answer is the quotient.
If there is a number left over, it is
called the remainder.
Example:
30 quotient
8 243 dividend
-24
divisor ——
03
remainder
——
The four terms defined above are connected
in the following manners:
121 — quotient
x 2 —–– divisor
——
242
+ 1 ———— remainder
——
2 4 3————— dividend
——
Using this relationship, we can verify the
answer of a division sum.
Quotient Divisor + Remainder = Dividend
Ex. dividend = 7595
divisor = 5
quoitent = 1519
remainder = 0
1519 x 5 + 0= 7595
Work out each sum and verify the
solution:

divisor ——
2 remainder
——
verification = quotient divisor +
remainder = dividend
7 7 + 2
= 51
