Social Media are Bad for Teenagers
Social media or social network websites such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Google Plus
and many others have become one of the inescapable aspects of our modern life, especially
for most teenagers. These websites are not just becoming a part of their world, but it’s
indeed becoming their world. They spend their time more and more on social media. It
happens because most of the teens now have their own smartphone. They can use it to
connect to the internet and access social media freely. They are constantly posting and
uploading status, pictures, and videos on social media. This hyper-connected habit to social
media could lead to some bad effects for them.
Firstly, most teens nowadays stay connected to the internet, accessing social media the
whole time. They always check their social media account on the smartphone from the time
they wake up in the morning till they back to sleep at night. This “always connected” habit is
bad because it could make the risk they are getting bullied higher. These days, bullying
doesn’t only happen in schools or on buses, but it also has spread over social media. It
means, if a teen is getting bullied in real life, the bully will simply keep doing it online on
social media.
Secondly, based on the latest study, teenagers who engage with social media during the
night could ruin their sleep pattern and it would lead to a higher risk of anxiety and
depression. Teens who always online tended to feel that they have to available online 24
hours. It’s resulting anxiety if they didn’t respond or reply text or post immediately. It
showed that teens are so emotionally devoted on social media that a fifth of secondary
school students would stay awake at night just to make sure they don’t miss anything on
social media.
Lastly, Social media could decrease the real life social interaction because they are being
more comfortable with their online friends. A separate study that was conducted by the
National Citizen Service also found that most girls seek comfort on social media rather than
talking their problem to their parents. The survey also suggested that girls are likely
experiencing stress more often than boys about twice in a week.
Social media websites are basically created to connect people around the world easily so
they can interact and communicate with each other. However, the excessive use of social
media could lead to some bad effects, especially for teenagers. As it has been mentioned
above that social media could be a bullying media and make the chance of a teen is getting
bullied higher, improve the risk of getting depressed and anxious, and reduce their social
interaction in real life. Therefore, it obvious that social media are dangerous for teenagers’
health both emotionally and mentally.

Advantages of Mobile Phones at School for Students
Technology is playing a major and important role in our lives. In modern society, nearly
everyone has a mobile device. Being able to access to mobile technology can be both a
blessing and a curse, especially for students. While many schools ban their students from
bringing mobile phones into school or classroom due to its distraction potential, but there
are also many positive effects that can be obtained from using mobile phones at school
wisely.
First, mobile phones are not just phones. Most modern phones nowadays come with many
features. They can provide students with electronic dictionaries, maps, magazines,
reference books, drawing tools, and scientific and musical instrument through applications.
Besides, the availability of internet access on their phones makes students can access the
internet as massive online education resources effortlessly
Secondly, mobile phones can encourage digital literacy development among students. It is
now an essential skill in higher education and in the future workplace. A report on the most
important skills in the workplace in 2030 by The Foundation for Young Australians predicted
that early-career jobs like teacher or pharmacy assistant would spend on average ten hours
more per week on tasks that require digital skills. The analysis which involved 4.2 million job
ads revealed that since 2012 the demand for digital skill has significantly increased by more
than 200 percent.
Thirdly, mobile phones can be used to improve students’ engagement in learning. We know
that the learning process will be effective when the leaners are interested in or at the very
least find any relevance about what they learn with their lives. A neuroscientist, Mary
Immordino-Yang states that thinking deeply about something that we do not care about is
literally neurobiologically impossible. If teachers want students to genuinely learn in school
then they need to connect students with the things they think are important. Involving
technology such as mobile phones as an instrument in teaching and learning process will
certainly boost the learners’ engagement.
In addition, the phone is not the real problem that leads to low scores. A study published by
The Centre for Economic Performance on student phone access and the achievement gap
showed that phone bans at school have very different effects on different types on students.
The study found that banning mobile phones improves outcomes for low-achieving
students, but has no significant impact on high achievers. Low-achieving students are more
likely to be distracted by the presence of mobile phone, while high achievers can focus in
classroom regardless of whether phones are present or not.
In conclusion, I believe that mobile phones can be a useful learning tool if their use at
school or in class is properly structured. They can help students to access digital resources
for educational purposes, develop digital literacy among students, and also boost students’
engagement in teaching and learning process
The Importance of Breakfast

activities, such daily pattern is not good for us. Breakfast has some beneficial effects for us.

calories for the entire day.
Secondly, breakfast may prevent ulcer pain. It also prevents the recurrence of ulcers for
those who suffer from it. Breakfast will keep the stomach filled with food so that it can
neutralize stomach acid.
Thirdly, breakfast will improve brain function. Our brain requires glucose from food to work
best. Studies have also shown how having breakfast can improve memory and
concentration levels, lower stress levels, and improve mood which leads us to be happier.
Lastly, breakfast will reduce stomach fat. Breakfast may prevent us from excessive snacking
on junk food such as candy, soda, and chips; thereby it will reduce the amount of belly fat
that leads to weight gain.

The importance of School Extracurricular Activities for Students
Besides learning formal lessons, students at school are able to develop their personality by
joining certain extracurricular activities that held at school, for example, boy scouts, martial
art, music, English club, sports, and so on. The activities have significant roles for students.
Firstly, school extracurricular activities will reveal the students' hidden potentials. This is
important since knowing students’ potentials will ease school to direct and manage the
students’ progress in certain talents. If some students join sport extracurricular, for
example, the school basketball team, it is easy for the school to choose the best student
sent if there is any student basketball competition.
Secondly, extracurricular activities will increase students’ self-confidence. It is important for
them to have strong and high self-confidence in order to achieve higher achievements and
better character.
Thirdly, joining school extracurricular activities will train students to learn how to organize
and give a contribution to a certain kind of organization. This knowledge and experience are
vital to developing students' leadership and cooperation. Here the will be involved in
choosing the leader of the school extracurricular, managing the administration of the group,
promoting their activities to other students, building good communication with school
management and running the activity continuously. This needs strong leadership and full
commitment and cooperation among members.
It is obviously clear that extracurricular activity in school is important for students to
develop their potential, increase self-confidence, and train them to learn how to organize in
school community.
